Llysfaen advance to NWCFA Junior Challenge Cup quarter-finals after penalties drama

Llysfaen secured a home tie against Llandyrnog United in the Junior Cup last eight after beating Anglesey side Amlwch on penalties in Saturday’s round two clash at the Bananabeu.
It was a great result for Gaz Dentith and Gaz Sorfleet’s men against a team which has won the prestigious cup three times in their history.
The tie stood at 0-0 after 90 minutes, but Faen held their nerve better in the shootout, 17-year-old George Clemence stepping up to slot away the home side’s fifth before hero Ben Williams saved Amlwch’s final pen.
Llysfaen would have won in normal time had it not been for some superb saves from visiting keeper Rhys Owen.
Managers Dentith and Sorfleet said: “Although we didn’t get it done in normal time, the lads thoroughly deserved to advance today with the amount of chances that we created.
“We could have been out of sight but credit to the Amlwch keeper for keeping them in the game. “We spoke before the game about our shape out of possession and working hard as a team and the lads did that to a tee today.
“Huge credit to every single player that stepped foot on the pitch, a massive effort by all and shoutout to all 5 of our successful penalty takers, including 17 year old George Clemence who stepped up last to slot his penalty home, then Ben Williams saving Amlwch’s final kick to see us through to the quarter-finals where a home tie with Llandyrnog awaits.”
Ashley Morris was named Llysfaen’s man of the match.
