1st XI ECB Premier League

Wallasey (6) 103-10 Colwyn Bay (21) 119-10
Result: Colwyn Bay won by 13 runs

Overseas ace Saliya Saman Jeewantha took a career best 9-39 as Colwyn Bay recorded their first league win of the season at the 10th attempt.

Jeewantha, who has played for Sri Lanka at under-17 and U-19 level and is a regular on the first-class circuit back home, destroyed the Wallasey batting after it looked like the Bay were heading for another miserable defeat.

The 33-year-old, full name Pitigala Arachchi Saliya Saman Jeewantha, has also played in the UK for a number of summers so is used to our conditions, which he certainly found to his liking at the Kevin McCullagh Oval.

Bay won the toss and batted, but collapsed from 104-4 to 119 all out, George Johansen top-scoring with 33, while Greg Beaver took 4-9 and Sumit Ruikar 4-34 for the hosts.

Jeewantha then wreaked havoc as the Wirralians were sent packing for 103, his 9-39 coming off 18 overs, Paul Jenkins taking the other wicket to fall.

Points: 5-21.

Another bad batting day for Prestatyn, who have lost their last five completed matches in Division One.

Old Xaverians called the coin correctly and opted for first knock, but found themselves in trouble at 68-5.

However, Jamie Doyle (63) led the recovery and the hosts eventually posted 214-7 declared from 49 overs.

Sheil Sethi took 3-44 and Adam Tidswell 3-88 for the visitors, who were then all back in the hutch for a paltry 89, skipper David Harris best with 22.

1st XI Division One

Wavertree (6) 132-10 Northop Hall (25) 223-9
Result: Hall won by 91 runs

Jamie Hodgson’s unbeaten 81 helped guide Northop Hall to a fine victory in Liverpool.

Put into bat, the Hall chalked up a useful 223-9 declared off 45.3 overs, Hodgson’s 81 well backed up by Ben Slater (34) and skipper Michael Barnes (30), plus a generous 38 extras, Christaneo Giby notching 6-45 for the home side.

Mohammed Enamul Haque Jr then produced his usual magic with the ball, snaring 5-22 off 12.5 overs as Wavertree were bowled out for 132, James Hurlin taking 3-53.
