CRICKET: Great win for Chirk’s first team, but disappointment for the seconds

Chirk complete their Division Two season this Saturday with a trip to bottom side Ellesmere knowing victory will clinch them fourth place.
The North Wales side, members of the Shropshire County Cricket League since 2019, continued an encouraging ending to 2026 at the weekend by thrashing mid-table Sentinel 2nd XI.
Winning the toss and electing to field, Chirk dismissed the visitors for just 77, Liam Walker taking 3-11, Matt Lawrenson 3-16, Nick Flack 2-15 and Connor Bailey 2-18.
In reply, the hosts eased to 78-1 off 14.5 overs, skipper Walker and Harry Lunt both finishing 25 not out, Oliver Gough making 22.
DIVISION EIGHT
Quatt 4th XI (25) 113-3 Chirk 2nd XI (2) 110-10
A disappointing outcome for the champions Chirk seconds at lowly Quatt 4ths.
Calling the coin correctly and choosing to bat, Chirk were bowled out for just 110, Bala Vajrala best with 40, Will Jones 3-16 for the hosts.
Quatt comfortably made it to 113-3 in just 19.5 overs, Evan Poole 45, James Coates 2-32 for the visitors,
