Liverpool and District Cricket Competition: Northop Hall and Prestatyn firsts close season in style
LIVERPOOL AND DISTRICT CRICKET COMPETITION – SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 19
1ST XI FIRST DIVISION
Northop Hall 1st XI (25) 110-5 Spring View 1st XI (3) 109-10
Northop Hall clinched fourth place to complete a great comeback season in the First Division.
Winning the toss and deciding to bat, visitors Spring View were dismissed for just 109, James Hurlin collecting 5-47 and Paul Jenkins 4-30 off 17 overs.
Jenkins ended the league campaign on 90 wickets, just six less than he managed in the Second Division last season, while fellow slow bowler Hurlin bagged a career-best 66 victims in a season.
Hall reached a winning 110-5 off 22.5 in reply, Christian Jardine (43) and Carwyn Johnson (35) putting on 83 for the first wicket.
Overseas player Jardine posted 553 league runs in 2026, Johnson chalking up 489.
Colwyn Bay 1st XI (5) Highfield 1st XI (5)
No play possible at Penrhyn Avenue, but Bay had already been crowned First Division champions the previous weekend.
1ST XI SECOND DIVISION
Prestatyn 1st XI (20) 35-2 Southport Trinity 1st XI (1) 32-10
A storming end to the season meant a vastly-improved Prestatyn finished third in the Second Division and missed out on promotion by just eight points.
The North Wales side really went to town on Saturday against a Trinity outfit which led the table at one stage.
Put into bat, the visitors were sent packing for just 32 off 31 overs, Kieran New taking 5-10 off 16 overs and Adam Tidswell 5-22 from 15.
In his comeback season for the club, New bagged 69 league wickets, fellow opening bowler Ben Hughes pocketed 49 and Tidswell 37.
Prestatyn eased to 35-2 against Trinity to seal a fourth win in a row to round off a very encouraging 2026.
2ND XI PREMIER DIVISION
Wallasey 2nd XI (21) 96-10 Colwyn Bay 2nd XI (5) 62-10
Bay seconds are relegated from the Premier despite putting themselves into a winning position at Wallasey on Saturday.
The visitors were asked to field and knocked over the Wirralians for just 96, Matt Russell grabbing 5-51, James Jones 3-22 and Will Spillane 2-6.
In reply, however, Bay were blasted out for just 62. David Cuthill 5-18 and Martin Williams 5-20 for the hosts.
2ND XI SECOND DIVISION
Caldy 2nd XI (5) Northop Hall 2nd XI (5) – cancelled
Game off but Northop Hall seconds go up as champions.
