CRICKET: Pwllheli are champions for third time in four seasons!
PWLLHELI Cricket Club’s first team are league champions for the third time in four seasons.
Saturday’s win at Brymbo seconds meant the Llŷn Peninsula side finished top of North Wales League Division Two in 2026.
Their latest success follows winning the Division Four title in 2023 and the Division Three crown in 2024.
Last year, they ended up ninth in Division Two, but this summer are once more top of the pile.
It is the latest chapter in a remarkable comeback story of a club whose first team were relegated from the Premier Division at the end of 2022.
Saturday’s clash at the Brymbo SSC saw Pwll put into bat and score 179-9 off 45 overs.
Opener Adam Williams top-scored with 63, while Craig Edwards made 36, Harri Davies taking 4-25 and Jack Bettis 3-43 for the Steelmen.
Brymbo were then dismissed for 146, Tomos Rhys 51 and skipper Gareth Pugh 36, Kalim Al Baloshi grabbing an excellent 5-25 for the visitors, Ioan Roberts 2-14.
Pwllheli finished four points ahead of second-place but also promoted Carmel and District, who won their final fixture 14-1 and would have snatched top spot had the champions failed to win.
However, the mighty Llŷn side would not be denied.

Carmel (14) 178-6 Menai Bridge 2nd XI (1) 96-10
Maneesha Ayomal Nissanka scored a magnificent 111 for Carmel in their closing-day victory over Menai Bridge seconds.
The hosts were inserted by the opposition and set 178-6 off 40 overs, Nissanka totally dominating, while Ollie Wood took 2-42 and David Owen 2-48 for Bridge.
The islanders were then bowled out for 96, Jack Whitehouse claiming 5-33, Danny Owens 2-1 and Antony Ralf Fernando 2-17 for the division runners-up.
Denbigh 2nd XI (14) 110-3 Llay Welfare (1) 109-10
Joe Threlfall (3-14), David Kitching (2-13), Sam Kitching (2-15) and John Lloyd-Williams (2-23) combined to bowl Llay Welfare out for 109 at Ystrad Road.
William Schrimshaw (32 not out) then helped Denbigh seconds to a winning 110-3 off 26.2 overs, Jack Honey 2-28 for the visitors.
Gwersyllt Park 2nd XI (14) 187-10 Corwen (1) 106-10
Tahsil Stanaksai made 71 and Muhammad Umair 37 as Gwersyllt seconds concocted a testing total of 187, Will Roberts taking 4-17 and Danny Jones 2-6 for Corwen, who were sent packing for just 106, Umair 3-26, Ben Griffiths 3-28 and Rhys Griffiths 2-16.
