Chirk 2nd XI have been confirmed as Shropshire County Cricket League Division Eight champions.
The North Wales side have an unassailable 75-point lead at the summit after last weekend’s latest victory at Cae Glas seconds.
The home side were put into bat and restricted to 121-8 off 40 overs, Zahid Nasiri collecting 3-22 from nine for the visitors, Shaun Southern top-scoring for Cae with 36.
Chirk eased to 125-4 off 24, openers Daniel Graham and Barry Wilding making 44 and 35 not out respectively.
DIVISION TWO
Wheaton Aston 1st XI (6) 87-10 Chirk 1st XI (25) 178-10
Oliver Gough led the way with 68 – his fifth league half-century of the season – as Chirk won comfortably on Saturday.
Invited to bat, the North Wales side were all out for 178, Nick Flack adding 35 with Joe Marson taking 4-40 for the hosts.
Marson was then the only doubLe-figure contributor with 53 as Wheaton Aston were dismissed for 87, Andrew Swarbrick taking 4-19 off 11 overs, Luke Gardner 3-5 and Matt Lawrenson 3-50.
Chirk sit fourth in Division Two but some way off the top three.
