NWCFA WOMEN’S CHALLENGE CUP FINAL – Felinheli lift trophy for third time in four seasons after late winner

NWCFA WOMEN’S CHALLENGE CUP FINAL 2025-26
CPDM Y Felinheli 2 (C Evans pen 72, Edwards 90)
CPDM Bangor 1 (M Evans 46)

Llywela Edwards’ sublime left-foot finish clinched Felinheli the Coast Challenge Cup for a third time in four seasons.
A close-fought final on Ynys Môn at Cae Rhosfain, Gaerwen, between two Adran North sides produced a dramatic ending.
In what was a great contest from start to finish, both teams truly went for it and it proved a battle and a half.
Felinheli created the better opportunities in the first half – Edwards, Katie Midwinter and Catrin Evall went close, but were denied by keeper Catrin Roberts or their shots went wide or just above the bar. Shannon Jones with her pace was also a constant threat down the left wing, but it remained 0-0 at the break and all to play for.
Bangor went on the attack immediately in the second half, and from a Holly Owen Roberts corner, which were a threat all game, Menna Evans unmarked in the box headed straight into the back of the net.
Bangor pushed on, playing with confidence but Felinheli never gave up. The three at the back for Felin. Llio Henshaw, Jay Greenough and Kelly Jones, showed tremendous resilience throughout and were able to cut out promising attacks.
Anna Jones and Catrin Evans were pulling the strings in the middle of the park and eventually a fantastic through ball was played to Player of the Match Jenna Tugwell-Allsup, who found herself one v one with the keeper.
Roberts took her out and the referee awarded a penalty. Catrin Evans as calm as you like hit the back of the net with a very well-taken effort.
An unfortunate injury to the fantastic Shannon Jones meant Felinheli had to switch things around but were able to bring on the fresh legs of Ellie Jones and Rubie Davies, both young players making a great impact on the final.
Felinheli battled on and had plenty of chances to put the game to bed. Davies and Edwards both went close to scoring.

In the final minutes, Tugwell-Allsup demonstrated her PoM worthy performance by winning the ball high up the pitch, passing through to Edwards who slotted home with her left foot like a Rory McIlroy putt, past the keeper and to the right hand bottom corner. via the post.
A great contest, plenty of quality, commitment and sportsmanship on show. Both clubs were grateful to the two set of fans that turned out to support the teams, an excellent show of how much women’s football has grown and is still growing in North Wales.
Felinheli managers Aaron Jones-Evans and Llio Emyr were super proud of the girls.
They said: “We told them at the start of the match that this would be a close one and that it would be a battle from start to finish. They have never let us down and today proved how much of an amazing group of women we have here at CPDM Y Felinheli.
“Not just their footballing talents, but their ability to support each other, to pick themselves up and dust themselves off when things are hard and to absolutely never give up. True role models for any young girls watching on today.
“We look forward to a well deserved break, to celebrate the season with our presentation evening and to look forward to push on towards our goals for next season. Da iawn genod – ymlaen!”
