Amateurs have done a professional-style job of winning their Tier 4 league title
Not beaten since the opening day of the season, 18 wins from the next 20 games and seven straight victories to land the title – no-one can deny Llandudno Amateurs are worthy 2025-26 North Wales Coast East Premier Division champions.
Needing a victory on Saturday tn ensure the title race did not go down to the final day and a showdown with nearest challengers Kinmel Bay, the Amateurs achieved their mission in style with a 4-0 home success over the only team to defeat them in the league this term – Mochdre Sports.
Experience has certainly been key in the Amateurs’ outstanding achievement, with the top two scorers having a combined age of 79 – former Llandudno FC Welsh Premier heroes Lee Thomas, 42, and midfield general, the sprightly 37-year-old Danny Hughes.
Both men have not just kept up with the pace – they’ve set it. Thomas has 19 league strikes – and 22 in all competitions – while Hughes has 15 in the Premier and 17 overall.
Captain Kyle Johnson, another veteran at 38, has been a major player, as well as long-serving stars Joe Jones and Azz Rogers, plus talented new signing Billy Sieben.
All in all a great squad effort with each player making vital contributions.
Saturday’s scoresheet against Mochdre featured the usual suspects, Thomas notching the only goal of the first half from a Hughes assist.
Just past the hour roles were reversed, Hughes finding the net and Thomas the supplier.
Hughes set up Rogers for number three after 67 and Morgan Thomas, who joined at the start of the season, completed the job in stoppage time with his 12th goal of the campaign.
