LIVERPOOL AND DISTRICT CRICKET COMPETITION

1ST XI FIRST DIVISION

Northop Hall (25) 149-7 St Helens Town (5) 148-10

Fourteen-year-old left-arm spinner Joshua Leach claimed his first five-wicket haul for Northop Hall’s first team in their final game of the season last Saturday.
The Hawarden High School pupil scooped 5-27 as the Hall defeated St Helens Town by three wickets at Smithy Lane.
The win meant the Flintshire side finished seventh in the 1st XI First Division, a place above and five points in front of North Wales rivals Colwyn Bay.
Cheshire County cricketer Joshua had snapped up 6-63 for Hall’s second team against Bay seconds earlier in the season, but this was his best return for the firsts.
St Helens chose to bat and were all out for 148, Leach junior well supported by his dad Darren Leach, a highly experienced new-ball bowler, who picked up 3-42.
In reply, Hall slumped from a comfortable 122-3 to 136-7, but they got home without further loss, Joshua Andrady best with 35.
Points: Northop Hall 25 St Helens Town 5

Colwyn Bay (5) 147-6 Liverpool (8) 247-7 DRAWN

The great Paul Jenkins

Bay spin king Paul Jenkins passed the 50 league wickets mark for the season as he ended the 2021 campaign in vintage fashion with a five-for in a drawn encounter with Liverpool.
Jenkins, who reached 1,000 Liverpool Competition victims earlier in the summer, took 5-58 off 19 overs as the visitors, who elected to bat, posted a formidable 247-7 off 55.
That meant Jenkins ended another super season on 53 league wickets.
Bay’s response finished on 147-6, skipper George Johansen 48, Ryan Westwell 37 and Adam Campion 36 not out.

1st XI SECOND DIVISION

Prestatyn (2) 57-10 Spring View (20) 58-5

Sampath Perera has reached 200 league wickets for Prestatyn over four seasons

A disappointing end to the season for Prestatyn who nonetheless finished a respectable sixth in the table.
Promoted Spring View put the hosts in and sent them packing for a paltry 57, Ashley Jones best with 26, Sallem Akram 5-22 for the visitors.
Despite Sampath Perera taking 3-25 for Prestatyn, making it 55 for the season and 200 in total for the club, the visitors made it to 58-5 in 17.5 overs.

2nd XI FIRST DIVISION

Rainhill 2nd XI (25) 193-9 dec Northop Hall 2nd XI (7) 132-10

Youngster Evan Withe hit a third half-century of the season for Hall’s second team in a 61-run defeat at the Add New Ground.
Rainhill batted first and made 193-9 declared off 42.3 overs, Harry Williams 3-58 for the visitors.
Wicket-keeper Withe then posted 55, taking his runs tally in all forms of cricket in 2021 to 1,517 as the Hall were bowled out for 132.

2nd XI SECOND DIVISION

Maghull 2nd XI (21) 256-3 Prestatyn 2nd XI (6) 255-3

Wicket-keeper Joe Horton’s magnificent 113 in a huge Prestatyn total was still not enough to secure a win at Maghull.
Choosing to bat first, the visitors set a mammoth 255-3 off just 38 overs, Jack Cheetham (63 not out) also impressing alongside opener Horton.
The Liverpool side refused to be beaten and got to 256-3 in 46 overs, Martin Fitton best with 105 not out.
