Triple joy as Colwyn Bay, Northop Hall and Prestatyn all win in the Liverpool Cricket Competition

Result: Bay won by seven wickets

Saliya Saman Jeewantha proved he is a match-winner with bat as well as ball in inspiring Colwyn Bay to a much-needed victory.

The Sri Lankan scored a decisive 82 not out which ensured the North Wales club picked up 20 priceless points in their battle against relegation.

Jeewantha recently scooped a career best 9-39 in Bay’s crucial success at Wallasey, but today he shone as an opening bat against rock bottom Lytham at Penrhyn Avenue.

Colwyn skipper Sion Morris and put the opposition in, the visitors losing their 10 wickets for a less than convincing 133, Paul Jenkins with 3-20 off 14 watertight overs, Adam Campion 3-42, Ryan Holtby 2-24 and Jeewantha 2-42.

Bay reached 136-3 in 38.4 overs, the overseas player’s unbeaten 82 including eight fours and four sixes.

1st XI First Division

Northop Hall (22) 136-10 Old Xaverians (6) 122-10

Result: Hall won by 14 runs

Enamul Haque Jr claimed his fifth league five-wicket haul of the season as Northop Hall returned to winning ways at Smithy Lane.

The Bangladesh Test all-rounder moved up to 48 wickets for the club in all competitions this season with 6-36 in his team’s narrow victory over Old Xavs.

Hall were inserted by the visitors and bowled out for a modest 136, number nine James Hurlin top-scoring with 34 not out.

Old Xavs slumped to 78-8 in reply before the tail wagged, but they had left themselves with too much to do and were eventually dismissed for 122.

Haque Jr’s 6-36 came off 20.3 overs, Hurlin pocketing 2-51 off 21 as the hosts took the points 22-6.

1st XI First Division

Prestatyn (20) 74-4 Rainford (2) 72-10

Result: Prestatyn won by six wickets

Four-wicket hauls from Sheil Sethi and Danny Pryde ensured Prestatyn stopped the rot with a brilliant win over third-placed Rainford at Beach Close.

Put into bat, the visitors were bowled out for just 72, Sethi claiming 4-17 from nine overs and Pryde a first-team best 4-34 off 16.2, Kieron Tidswell bagging 2-21.

Gareth Leonard was the main contributor with 32 not out as the hosts reached 74-4 in 26.4 overs to clinch a welcome 20 points.
