FC Mountain welcome back star player – but game versus Prestatyn Sports ends in defeat

Although last night’s home clash with Prestatyn Sports ended in defeat, there is a major positive coming out of the FC Mountain camp.

The club has re-signed Owen Cassidy, who had a great first season last term with Mountain, scoring nine goals in 26 Cymru North matches.

Cassidy made his return on Friday night and scored, although in the end an exciting encounter at Bastion Gardens finished up in Sports’ favour.

After his impressive 2025-26 campaign, Cassidy rejoined the English pyramid at the start of the current season, but has now returned to a club where he enjoyed his previous stint.

Mountain technical director Max Leghissa said: “To be able to bring back someone of Owen’s ability to the club shows that the players are responding to what we are trying to rebuild.

“After speaking to his ex-team mates and hearing how they are enjoying the experience at Mountain, Owen was happy to give it another go at the club.”

Last night’s game saw Sports, seeking a first league win of the season since their promotion to the Premier, make a strong start, going two-up after 24 minutes through a Kyle Lally double.

Mountain hit back to be level at half time courtesy of goals from Daniele Di Marco and Jonny O’Sullivan.

A minute into the second half, Lally turned provider to set up 17-year-old ace Alfie Griffiths to make it 3-2.

Cassidy then marked his comeback with a 57th minute equaliser, O’Sullivan with the assist.

Last season’s Player of the Year in Division One, Jones struck on 64 and 84 minutes to win the game for the visitors.
