FC Mountain v Prestatyn Town – how both camps see next weekend’s Welsh Cup clash

It’s one of the most interesting ties of the Welsh Cup first qualifying round – tenant v landlord, FC Mountain v Prestatyn Town.

The reaction to the match-up has been mixed across the two camps.

Mountain chairman Jay Welsh believes the big test at shared homr ground Bastion Gardens on the weekend of July 24-26 has come too soon for his new-look side, but Prestatyn manager Aden Shannon warns his team will need to be wary of the unknown.

With pretty much all of last season’s squad moving on, Mountain’s recently-appointed head UEFA B Licence holder Paride Muci has this week signed two little-known Italians Lorenso Fasulu and Daniel De Marco. 

No doubt a number of further new names will emerge in the coming days at the Tier 4 North Wales Coast East Premier Division club.

Prestatyn Town are shaping up nicely for the new campaign in Tier 3 Ardal North West, with manager Shannon making a number of summer signings to date.

Most recent additions include former The New Saints, Denbigh Town, Flint Mountain, Newtown and Cefn Druids midfield man Ryan Kershaw, the returning Zebb Edwards from Holywell Town, ex-Brickfield Rangers and Rhyl frontman Aaron White and young talents Connor Davies and Leon Bennett.

Mountain chairman Welsh said: “Great game, one we look forward to. It’s just come far too quick for us to put any sort of a competitive side out so it’s probably the ideal scenario for both clubs.”

Prestatyn chief Shannon added: “It’s a very difficult draw for us. They’re under new ownership, with a new management team and several new players, so realistically we don’t know a great deal about them yet.

“We’ll do our homework as best we can, prepare properly and give them the respect they deserve because I’m sure they’ll be a decent, competitive side.

“I’m certain they’ll succeed and become competitive again, and I wish them all the best for the season. That said, our focus is on ourselves. My lads will be ready, they’ll be up for the challenge, and we’re all looking forward to what should be a good game.”
