Nomads needed to edge a penalty shoot-out to avoid going the same way as Cymru Premier sides Caernarfon Town, Airbus and The New Saints against Cymru North opposition in the Nathaniel MG Cup this week.

Andy Morrison’s side secured their place in tomorrow’s quarter-final draw with a hard earned success at Clos Mytton tonight.

The Quay started strongly at Guilsfield, Callum Morris heading narrowly over the crossbar early on.

Despite strong pressure from the visitors, the hosts held out and created one or two opportunities of their own before the deadlock was broken in the 43rd minute.

Jamie Insall got the goal, firing in from eight yards to hand the favourites an interval lead.

Guilsfield came out all guns blazing after the interval and Callum Bromley levelled within three minutes of the kick-off.

After that chances fell at both ends, Nomads producing the stronger finish but unable to claim the winner.

So it was down to spot-kicks, and the fact Guils missed their second made all the difference
