Result: Menai Bridge won by 178 runs

Champions Menai Bridge kept their outside hopes of retaining the Premier Division title alive with a maximum points win at relegation-threatened Pontblyddyn today.

With three rounds of matches left to play, second-placed Bridge are now 17 points behind table-toppers Bangor.

In their remaining games, Menai will play Northop and Pwllheli at home and fellow high-flyers Mochdre away.

Bangor still have Pwllheli and Mochdre to face at Ty Newydd and Pontblyddyn on their travels.

Today’s Bank Holiday Monday encounter saw Menai win the toss and elect to bat at Alder Meadow.

The visitors were 77-3 at one point before Dion Holden (79) and Aussie all-rounder Sean O’Callaghan (67) put on 113 for the fourth wicket.

This helped the islanders set 261-9 off their 50 overs, extras amounting to 30, while skipper Gethin Roberts (29) and Jack Gower (26) also made useful contributions.

Dan Wilcock collected 5-69 for Pont, Jon Byrd picking up 2-38.

The hosts were then rolled over for just 83, left-arm spinner O’Callaghan 3-11 from six, Gethin Roberts 3-25 and Holden 2-7 off five.

Pont openers Ben Mason (16) and Glenn Chambers (10) made a decent start, but from 32-0 the home side added just 51 more runs.
