Disappointment for Brymbo in Welsh Cup semi-final

Brymbo’s dream of a Welsh Cup Final spot was dashed when they lost their semi at Ynysymaerdy Road by 56 runs.

The North Wales League Premier Division side won the toss and asked their hosts to bat.

Indian ace Gitanshu Malhotra was the chief destroyer, scoring 107 as Briton Ferry were bowled out for 204, having been 0-2 after two early victims for Daniel Parry.

Dikshant Vairagi claimed 3-39, Sam Aplin 2-20, Parry 2-28 and Chris Taylor 2-44 for the Steelmen.

Needing 205 off 40 overs for victory, Brymbo must have fancied their chances given the quality of batting at their disposal.

However, despite a tremendous effort of 93 from opener Taylor, it was not to be as the North Walians were dismissed for 148.

Apart from Taylor, only Connor Davies (23) made double figures. Taylor’s innings took 74 balls and included 11 fours and two sixes.

In the bowling, Ferry’s Azrin Azmy took 3-26, including the prize wicket of Taylor.

Cardiff won the other semi, so will meet Briton Ferry Town in the final.
