Cheetham and Hughes claim career bests in double Prestatyn victory, Northop Hall celebrate pair of wins – Liverpool Competition

LIVERPOOL AND DISTRICT CRICKET COMPETITION REPORTS – AUGUST 1

1ST XI FIRST DIVISION

Hightown St Mary’s 1st XI (0) 85-10 Northop Hall 1st XI (25) 87-1

Spin kings James Hurlin and Paul Jenkins took five victims apiece as Northop Hall eased to a nine-wicket victory at Sandy Lane.
Hightown won the toss and batted but were blown away for just 85, Hurlin grabbing 5-24 off 11.4 overs and Jenkins 5-31 from 16.
Carwyn Johnson then produced a one-man show with 66 not out off 65 balls – 11 fours and a six – as the visitors cruised to 87-1 off 21-4 to seal a 25-0 points triumph.

Maghull 1st XI (23) 185-9 dec Colwyn Bay (6) 139-10

Bay produced a below par battling display in a 46-run defeat at Old Hall Field.
Put into bat, Maghull were reeling on 65-5 before Anthony Molloy (59) and Shaun Hornby (54 no) produced a stand of 79 for the sixth wicket.
The hosts were able to set a respectable 185-9 declared, Jack Parry claiming 3-37 off 16, Jamie Moorhouse 2-34 and Shashika Dulshan 2-60.
Despite an excellent knock of 72 from Will Higginson, plus a spirited 29 by Moorhouse, Bay could only muster 139 all out in reply, Molloy 4-46 for the Liverpool hosts.

1ST XI SECOND DIVISION

St Helens Town 1st XI (5) 51-10 Prestatyn 1st XI (21) 111-10

Ben Hughes snapped up a career-best 7-20 as Prestatyn skittled out St Helens for just 51 in reply to their own modest effort of 111.
Put into bat, the North Wales side were indebted to a fine 42 not out down the order from Sion Jones, plus opener Ryan Westwell’s 40 as they struggled to get past 100.
Robert Magee took 4-16 and Matthew Bielby 3-10 off 10 for the hosts, who then collapsed against the two-man attack of Hughes and Kieran New.
Hughes’ 7-20 came off nine overs, while New collected 3-30. Points: 21-5 Prestatyn.

2ND XI PREMIER DIVISION

Colwyn Bay 2nd XI (0) 66-10 Northern 2nd XI (25) 68-0

Just two batsmen made double figures as Bay were blitzed out for 66 after electing to bat before Northern skipped to 68 without loss in 14.2 overs to win by 10 wickets.

2ND XI SECOND DIVISION

Northop Hall 2nd XI (20) 118-2 Cheshire Lines 2nd XI (3) 116-10

Hall seconds added another 20 points to their relentless quest for the second division title as they swept aside Cheshire Lines at Smithy Lane.
Lines were inserted by the hosts and removed for 116, Jamie Edwards 2-11, Matthew Edwards 2-15, Oliver Jenkins 2-25 and Liam Evans-Ford 2-38 for Hall.
Owen Skillander then maintained his mighty form with 75 not out as the home side breezed to 118-2 off 25.5.

Prestatyn 2nd XI (24) 200-7 dec St Helens Town 2nd XI (8) 177-10

Jack Cheetham took a career-finest 8-57 as Prestatyn seconds triumphed by 23 runs at Beach Close.
Ashley Jones top-scored with 63 as Prestatyn set a winning 200-7 declared after deciding to bat.
Opener Cheetham made 45 and Jason Edwards posted 33 not out in a decent home total, then St Helens were all out for 177,
