Triple delight for Northop Hall, Colwyn Bay and Prestatyn 1st XIs in Liverpool Competition

LIVERPOOL AND DISTRICT CRICKET COMPETITION – JUNE 6, 2026

1ST XI FIRST DIVISION

Northop Hall 1st XI (20) 90-1 Ainsdale 1st XI (0) 86-10

Spin kings Paul Jenkins and James Hurlin were at their destructive best as Northop Hall secured a resounding win which places them top of Division One.

Winning the toss and putting visitors Ainsdale into bat, Hall blew away the opposition for just 86 in 38.4 overs, skipper Oliver Green saving them from a worse fate with a defiant 40.

Jenkins snapped up 6-28 off 19.4 overs, Hurlin grabbing 3-24 from 10 and Carwyn Johnson taking the other wicket to fall.

The hosts then needed just 21.4 overs to reach the winning post at 90-1, Johnson striking seven fours in his 51 not out.

Colwyn Bay 1st XI (25) 131-4 Hightown St Mary’s 1st XI (3) 129-10

Will Higginson’s stunning knock of 81 not out off 48 balls made sure Colwyn Bay romped to victory at Penrhyn Avenue.

After bowling out the bottom side for a modest 129, Bay left themselves well set for another win – and they delivered.

Jack Parry made two very early breakthroughs as Hightown were reduced to 11-3 after deciding to bat first.

A stand of 70 between Matt Laybourne (41) and skipper Matthew White (33) steadied the ship, but the visitors lost their last seven wickets for just 48 runs.

Shashika Dulshan pocketed 4-25 off 12, Matt Russell 4-32 and Parry 2-41 for the North Wales hosts.

In reply, the hosts nosedived to 22-3, before Matthew Thomson (31) and Higginson turned the tide with a fourth-wicket stand of 91.

Higginson’s unbeaten 81 included 13 fours and two sixes, Bay reaching 131-4 off just 21.4 for a 25-3 points success.

1ST XI SECOND DIVISION

Prestatyn 1st XI (20) 100-5 Cheshire Lines 1st XI (2) 96-10

Kieran New produced a mighty analysis of 6-63 as Prestatyn made it back-to-back second division victories.

New, who returned to Beach Close this season after four years at Bootle, came up with his best figures of 2026 so far in a ruthless bowling display from the Seasiders.

After inserting the opposition, Prestatyn reduced Cheshire Lines to 0-3, 1-4, 14-5 and 52-9, the top four batters registering a duck apiece, before the tail wagged and they finally ended on 96 all out off 30.3 overs, skipper Luke Helsby hitting an admirable 55.

New’s six-for was well backed up by Benjamin Hughes (2-9) and Adam Tidswell (2-24).

Needing just 97 for victory, it was not all plain sailing for the coast side

At one point 9-2, the hosts made it to 100-5 off 35.4, Andy Taylor (37) and Daniel Williams (29) putting on 59 for the third wicket.

2ND XI PREMIER DIVISION

Leigh 2nd XI (24) 186-2 Colwyn Bay 2nd XI (6) 184-8

Deciding to take first knock, Bay seconds posted 184-8 off 50, captain Tom Roberts 36, James Jones 31 and Josh Grant 30 not out with Lucas Charlson gathering 5-46 for Leigh seconds, who eased to 186-2, Ben Smith 86 no, Kishan Hira 57, for an eight-wicket, 24-6 points verdict.

Bay were the only North Wales side to lose in the Liverpool Comp for a second successive week.

2ND XI SECOND DIVISION

Cheshire Lines 2nd XI (7) 187-9 dec Prestatyn 2nd XI (8) 165-5

Drawn encounter at Lines, the hosts setting 187-9 declared, Jack Cheetham 3-34, Samuel Hughes 2-22 and Ben Williams 2-41 for Prestatyn, whose response ended on 165-5, Faiz Shah 53 not out and Ben Williams 51, the latter pair putting on 99 for the fifth wicket.

Nortey Hall 2nd XI (0) 145-10 Northop Hall 2nd XI (20) 146-3

Great seven-wicket victory for Northop Hall seconds.

The Flintshire side put their hosts in and dismissed them for 145, Oliver Jenkins 5-41 and Harley Pritchard 4-38.

Hall hit back with a convincing 146-3 off 36.1 for a 20-0 points decision, Matteo Evans-Ford 51 not out and Michael Williamson 50
