Liverpool Cricket Competition: Win double for Northop Hall, Colwyn Bay and Prestatyn 1st XIs play out draws

LIVERPOOL AND DISTRICT CRICKET COMPETITION – MAY 9

1ST XI FIRST DIVISION

Highfield 1st XI (2) 115-10 Northop Hall 1st XI (20) 119-2

Northop Hall’s perfect start to the season continued as they made it three straight wins and now hold a 10-point lead at the First Division summit.
Winning the toss at Highfield, Hall put the opposition into bat and sent them packing for just 115 in 46.5 overs.
Two spinners did all the damage – James Hurlin claiming 5-40 off 17.5 overs and the ever-prolific Paul Jenkins scooped 5-50 from 23.
The visitors made light work of reaching the winning post, getting to 119-2 in just 25.5 overs, Christian Jardine hitting six fours and two sixes in his 52 not out, while opener Jac Kennedy struck seven boundaries and a maximum in making 47.
That top-scoring pair put on 77 for the second wicket and sealed a 20-2 points success for the impressive Division One newcomers.

Colwyn Bay 1st XI (8) 211-6 Southport and Birkdale 1st XI (7) 215-9 dec – DRAWN

Bay fell just five runs short of victory at Penrhyn Avenue and had to settle for a winning draw.
Visitors Southport and Birkdale called the coin correctly and opted to bat, chalking up 215-9 declared off 54.5 overs.
The hosts had their guests floundering on 119-7 at one stage before the tail wagged.
Number eight Monty Horridge made 67 and the vastly-experienced former Bootle star David Snellgrove hit 55.
Charlie Collins grabbed 4-40 off 12 and Shashika Dulshan 2-61 for the hosts,
In reply, Bay batted steadily throughout, but at the end of their allotted 49 overs had only reached 211-6.
Opener Zack Gidlow did best with 50, Will Higginson made 31 and Luke Russell 30 not out.

1ST XI SECOND DIVISION

Prescot & Odyssey 1st XI (4) 124-2 Prestatyn 1st XI (4) 186-7 dec – DRAWN

Benjamin Hughes hit a patient half-century as Prestatyn played out a draw at Burrows Lane.
Put into bat, the North Wales side batted for 59.5 overs in posting 186-7 declared.
Hughes’ 59 was the best of the bunch, while Gareth Leonard added 33, Andy Taylor 29 and Ryan Westell 28.
Prescot’s response amounted to 124-2 off 31.5, Shonak Harsh a dominant 84 not out off 45 balls, Adam Tidswell bagging 2-31 for the visitors.

2ND XI PREMIER DIVISION

Newton-le-Willows 2nd XI (20) 201-7 Colwyn Bay 2nd XI (8) 200-3 declared

Openers Zane Roy and Tom Roberts both made half-tons for the Bay, whose useful total of 200-3 declared was not enough to prevent a defeat at The Lane.
Invited to bat, Bay halted their innings after 43 overs, setting Newtown 201 fir victory.
Roy struck 72 and Roberts 50, the pair putting on 89 before Harry Spillane contributed a useful 35 not out.
The hosts looked in big trouble at 86-6 in reply, but then a vital seventh-wicket stand of 68 between skipper Marc De Brabander (56 not out) and Nikhil Bahl (37) put them back in the contest.
A further unbeaten partnership of 47 between De Brabander and Cyril Paul (24 no) guided Newton to 201-7 off 44 and a three-wickets, 20-8 points triumph.
Sion Hellen snapped up 4-69 off 17 for the Bay, who are bottom of the standings having lost all three matches so far.

2ND XI SECOND DIVISION

Northop Hall 2nd XI (25) 183-7 dec Fleetwood Hesketh 2nd XI (6) 138-10

Harley Pritchard (41) and Ben Hicks (38) led the charge as Northop Hall seconds concocted a winning 183-7 declared off 41 overs after winning the coin and electing to bat.
F;eetwood were then dismissed for 138, Liam Evans-Ford picking up 4-19 off eight, Matteo Evans-Ford 3-28 from 10 and Matthew Edwards 3-33 for the Flintshire victors.

Prestatyn 2nd XI (5) 114-10 Nortley Hall 2nd XI (7) 101-7 – DRAWN

A low-scoring draw at Beach Close.
Prestatyn seconds were asked to bat and eked out a painstaking 114 all out from 58.2 overs, opener Jason Edwards best with 29, Aston Bailey 4-16 off 12 for the hosts.
In their 32 overs available to reach a target of 115, Norley Hall were limited to 101-7, Ben Williams 4-62 off 16 and Ashley Jones 3-18 off seven for the North Wales side.
