For just the second time in the feature’s short history the Grassroots North Wales Club/Team of the Month goes to a women’s side.
Wrexham AFC Women had such an exceptional February, no-one else came close to matching their achievements.
Jenny Sugarman’s side began the month with a 6-1 victory at Barry Town United in the Genero Adran Premier – a joint record highest away win in the league for the team.
On February 8, Wrexham advanced to the Bute Energy Women’s Welsh Cup semi-finals with an emphatic 5-0 triumph at Adran South underdogs Carmarthen Town.
February 22 delivered the biggest achievement in the team’s brief history as they beat arch rivals Cardiff City on penalties to lift the Genero Adran Trophy – the biggest prize to enter their cabinet so far.
Then on February 28, Wrexham proved that result was no fluke as they emerged 3-1 victors at Adran Premier champions and current leaders Cardiff.
That result edged the Red Dragons to within a point of City with a game in hand.
Wrexham aim to make it a three-timer next weekend when they lock horns with the Bluebirds in the Welsh Cup semi-finals.
February was a remarkable month for Sugarman’s stars. They won all four matches, none of which were at home.
Leading scorer over the four fixtures was Katie Barker with six. She is now on 21 goals from 21 games in her first season with the club.
