Liverpool Cricket Competition: Double success for Colwyn Bay, Hall have mixed fortunes, no cheer for Prestatyn

LIVERPOOL AND DISTRICT COMPETITION – REPORTS JULY 4, 2026

1ST XI FIRST DIVISION

Colwyn Bay 1st XI (20) 252-5 Sutton (St Helens) 1st XI (7) 250-10

A century opening stand between Zack Gidlow and Dan Russell laid the foundations for a great home win in Colwyn Bay’s favour on Saturday.
Winning the toss and deciding to field, Bay dismissed visitors Sutton for 250 off 55 overs, skipper Joseph Noctor top-scoring with 104.
Matt Russell led the way for the Bay attack, claiming fifth best career figures of 6-64, while Shashika Dulshan picked up 2-75.
In reply, Gidlow (73) and Dan Russell (45) put on 103 for the first wicket before Matthew Thompson added 50 not out and Charlie Collins was 33 no as the hosts reached 252-5.
Collins, who hit five fours and a six in his lively 21-ball knock, helped put on an unbroken 48 for the sixth wicket to lead second-place Bay to the winning post.

Northop Hall 1st XI (5) 94-10 Maghull 1st XI (22) 142-10

After bowling out visitors Maghull for a modest 142, Northop Hall must have fancied their chances, but a batting failure cost the Smithy Lane hosts dear.
Inserting the opposition, Paul Jenkins collected 4-73 off 28 overs and James Hurlin snapped up 3-46 from 20, while there were also three runs out in the Liverpool travellers’ innings.
In response, Hall were all out for just 94, Greg Coogan with a stunning 7-34 and Zack Benton 3-57 for Maghull, who claimed the points 22-5.

1ST XI SECOND DIVISION

Prestatyn 1st XI (6) 101-10 Caldy 1st XI (23) 165-10

Adam Tidswell gathered an outstanding 5-32 off 14 overs for Prestatyn who dismissed their opponents for a getable 165, but the story ended in disappointment for the North Walians.
Put in by the Seasiders, the Wirralians’ innings was a moderate effort, Ryan Westwell (2-16) and Kieran New (2-76 off 23) providing back-up to main strike bowler Tidswell.
Prestatyn could only come up with 101 before they were all back in the pavilion, Nauman Ahmad best with 32, Pitras Bukhari a brilliant 5-13 off eight for Caldy, Asiri Gamage 4-16.

2ND XI PREMIER DIVISION

Wigan 2nd XI (8) 131-10 Colwyn Bay 2nd XI (20) 162-10

In a battle of the bottom two, Bay emerged victorious at Bull Hey.
Winning the toss and deciding to bat, the Welsh side were all out for 162, skipper Tom Roberts 49, Sony Antony 5-51 for the hosts.
Wigan plummeted to 76-8 in reply, but managed to reach 131 before the final wicket fell.
Jamie Moorhouse nabbed 4-37, Shay Williams 3-13 and Jaiveer Tomar 2-21 for the victorious visitors.

2ND XI SECOND DIVISION

St Helens Town 2nd XI (2) 99-10 Northop Hall 2nd XI (20) 103-2

Northop Hall seconds have a 21-point lead at the second division summit after an emphatic eight-wicket success at St Helens.
Invited to bat, Saints were all out for just 99, Matteo Evans-Ford 2-13, Oliver Jenkins 2-14, Liam Evans-Ford 2-26 and Matthew Edwards 2-34 for the visitors, who hit back with 103-2 off 27.3, opener Michael Williamson steering the ship with 48 not out.

Sutton (St Helens) 2nd XI (25) 233-5 dec Prestatyn 2nd XI (2) 73-10

Hosts Sutton 2nd XI piled up a huge 233-5 declared off 40, Samuel Hughes taking an admirable 4-30 for Prestatyn seconds, who were then skittled out for 73.
