Cricket: Pwllheli go top of Division 2, Llay Welfare eke out a three-run victory

Pwllheli (12) 99-6 Denbigh 2nd XI (3) 98-10

Pwllheli went top of Division Two on Monday after a four-wicket home win over Denbigh seconds in a low-scoring encounter.
The result put the Llŷn Peninsula side 10 points clear of title rivals Carmel, who have a game in hand.
Put into bat, Denbigh were in dire straits at 14-7 before a late recovery saw them make 98 all out off 36.5 overs.
Number nine bat David Kitching led the way with 37 not out, while skipper Dan Nixon (23) and Alec Lewis (20) also helped the cause.
For Pwllheli, Omar Aftab took 4-7 off eight overs, Ioan Roberts claimed 3-8 and Syed K Aslam 2-11.
In reply, Pwll reached 99-6 off 21, Logan Morgan posting a crucial 41, including eight fours, Finley Rooke-Hart pocketing 3-31 for the visitors.
Carmel visit Gwersyllt Park 2nd XI this Saturday needing 11 points to regain top spot.
On the final Saturday of the season, Pwllheli visit Brymbo seconds, while Carmel host Menai Bridge seconds. Both Carmel and Pwllheli are already promoted.

Llay Welfare (11) 168-8 Brymbo 2nd XI (4) 165-8

Llay edged a thrilling victory over Brymbo seconds by just three runs.
Invited to bat, Welfare chalked up 168-8 off 40 overs, number eight Jack Edwards a scintillating 68 not out and Findlay Williams 52, Ahamadzia Wali returning a remarkable analysis of 6-9 off 7/4 overs for the Steelmen.
In response, Brymbo finished tantalisingly close to victory on 165-8, Jason Taylor 70, Williams 3-33 and Mike Wright 2-23 for Llay.
