North Wales women’s all-time club XIs – No 4: Caernarfon Town

Caernarfon Town’s Welsh Premier North champions of 2009-10

Caernarfon Town have enjoyed an illustrious past with cups and titles galore on their record.

The current team has been less successful, but there is lots of potential there for a better future.

CAERNARFON TOWN WOMEN ALL-TIME XI

Elena Julio

Goalkeeper supreme, phenomenal shot-stopper.
Returned to Caernarfon last season after a few years with Pwllheli.
An outstanding keeper and more than capable outfield player, Elena began her football career playing for Caernarfon-based Cae Glyn United Under-9 boys.
She went on to feature in goal for several seasons at Caernarfon Town, helping the team win the North Wales League title in 2016-17.
Elena had a spell at Llandudno before signing for newly-formed Mountain Rangers in 2018, where she was a major influence for two seasons before the team folded in 2020.
She has won a host of trophies in her career.

Kim Broadbent

Regarded as one of the best defenders in North Wales, Broadbent is a renowned dead-ball specialist.
Broadbent began her career at Bangor City and was originally a forward until manager Keith Fearns converted her into a centre-back with great effect.
When the team changed identity to become Caernarfon Town Ladies in 2010, Broadbent was soon a regular in the side.
She has won the North Wales League four times and League Cup on six occasions.
Signed for Mountain Rangers in 2019-20, then later moved to Pwllheli.

Sara Williams

Although perhaps best-known as a goalkeeper, especially after winning the Adran North league title with Llandudno in 2021-22, Sara is also a fiercely competitive defender.
She spent 2022-23 at Caernarfon Town as captain and as an outfield player, featuring in 20 games and netting twice.
Her most successful spell has been with Pwllheli, winning back-to-back league doubles as well as two cups. Six winners’ medals were collected over three glorious seasons.
Also a past North Wales League title winner with Colwyn Bay.

Sioned Bohana

Has spent the majority of her football career with Caernarfon, having started playing the game in her years at Ysgol Syr Hugh Owen.
She was a member of Caernarfon’s 2016-17 North Wales Women’s League title-winning side, scoring a hat-trick in one game, and represented the Cofis on numerous occasions in the Welsh Premier.
The hard-tackling defender was with Llandudno in 2019-20, performing brilliantly at the back before the team resigned from the Welsh Premier Women’s League.
She then moved on to Mountain Rangers, where again she excelled.
Bohana has been mainly a Pwllheli player since 2021-22, but did have a short spell back at Caernarfon in 2022-23 and was very briefly at CPDM Bangor in 2024-25.
Made 11 appearances for Caernarfon last season.

Alison Mummery

Former Manchester United, Wales, Llangefni Town and Caernarfon Town player Alison Mummery was a truly awesome defender.
Solid in the tackle and possessed a lethal left-foot.
Played for Manchester United from ages 13 to 16 and regularly won the Lancashire League.
Later had a stint with a successful Llangefni side before making the move to Caernarfon, where she won the North Wales League and progressed to the Welsh Premier.
Rates being selected for Wales Under-19s as a 15-year-old as the greatest moment of her career.

Katie Bowe

Midfield genius who was back in a Caernarfon shirt last season after a few years away from the club.
With long-time highly respected women’s football coach Keith Fearns a major influence, in her late teens Katie became a key player in the successful Caernarfon Town ladies teams of the first millennium decade.
She was a stand-out performer when the Canaries competed in the Welsh Premier Women’s League Northern Conference and won the title in 2009-10.
Town made it back-to-back Northern championships in 2010-11, Katie scoring twice in a title-clinching 2-0 win over Wrexham.
She also grabbed a hat-trick as Town beat Llandudno Junction 4-1 to lift the Maurice Naylor Cup.
Later joined Llandudno, where her goals, especially long-range efforts from free kicks, won her wide acclaim. Her wonder strike in the 2015-16 Welsh Cup Final against Cardiff City earned a nomination for S4C Goal of the Month – Katie being the first woman ever selected for the award.
After leaving Tudno had spells with Mountain Rangers and Pwllheli.

Anna Jones

Midfield battler who has enjoyed plenty of success at Caernarfon and elsewhere.
Joined Caernarfon in 2011, winning the Betty Pickering Cup in 2015-16 and 2016-17, was part of the 2016-17 North Wales Women’s League title-winning squad and then represented the Canaries in the Welsh Premier Women’s League.
In that double-winning 2016-17 campaign, Anna netted 16 goals for the Canaries in all competitions.
Anna has also scooped the BUCS League championship with Bangor University Women’s FC twice and competed in the Costa Blanca Cup with Caernarfon.
After Town pulled out of the WPWL in 2018-19, Anna moved to another top flight club Llandudno, where she was an outstanding performer in the midfield.
When Tudno resigned from the league in 2019-20, Anna joined Chester FC Women in February 2020.
Went on to play for Tramnere Rovrs before returning to North Wales with Felinheli last season.

Ffion Owen

Maestro of the midfield area with shooting and passing ability which is second to none.
Quiet and unassuming off the pitch, Ffion certainly does not hold back when she crosses the white line.
Was captain of Caernarfon Town’s North Wales League champions in 2016-17, scoring 33 goals. Also lifted the Betty Pickering Cup with the Cofis in 2015-16 and 2016-17.
Probably the most decorated player in North Wales women’s football, the 30-year-old has won the Adran North title twice with Llandudno and been crowned North Wales League champion with Amlwch Town and Llangefni Town, as well as Caernarfon.

Ceryl Jones

Ceryl (front row, third right) with Caernarfon Town

Regarded by many as the best North Wales player ever.
Living next door to The Oval, it was no surprise that her football talents developed alongside the boys at Caernarfon when she was a youngster.
Skilful on the ball and almost impossible to dispossess when in full flight, Ceryl first made her mark in senior football with Bangor City Girls, winning the Welsh Cup three times.
Earned Wales caps at all age levels and gained major recognition during spells with Everton and Liverpool in the English pyramid.
Before retiring at the age of 30, she returned to home town club Caernarfon and won a host of trophies.

Shan Jones

Magnificent goalscorer who shone brightly for Caernarfon in their Northern Combination days before the Welsh Premier Women’s League had started.
Once netted all six Cofis goals in a 6-3 victory over Peterlee Newtown.
Returned to Town in the 2012-13 season and bagged 13 goals in her first three Welsh Premier League appearances.
Capped by Wales at senior level, Jones also played in America, where she graduated in psychology from Middle Tennessee University and later played for Virginia Beach Piranhas in the W-League.

Elan Evans

In recent seasons, unlike the illustrious teams of yesteryear, Caernarfon Town have struggled.
However, while the past for the team is of the glowing variety, the present has its highpoints too and we felt it important to give the current crop recognition in this all-star XI.
Hence Elan Evans, a young goal machine, wins inclusion.
Sister of former first team defender Elain Evans, Elan has struck 24 goals in 32 first team appearances for Caernarfon.
Formerly with Liverpool FC, the teenager chalked up nine goals in 12 matches for a much improved Caernarfon side in 2025-26.
