North Wales Cricket League Division One: Mold ease to victory, Hawarden Park, Llandudno, Gresford, Brymbo 2nds and Quay all win

NORTH WALES CRICKET LEAGUE DIVISION ONE REPORTS – JUNE 21

It could hardly be tighter at the Division One summit with just a single point separating first and third.

Mold (14) 132-2 Halkyn (1) 155-10 – Mold revised target

Mold maintained their recent penchant for reaching winning targets with ease as they romped to an eight-wicket victory over fellow high-flyers Halkyn at Chester Road.

Put into bat, the visitors were bowled out for 155, Nathan Roett making 49, Matthew Towey 35 and Duane Williams 34 not out.

Jon Crane notched 3-19 off nine, Munowar Samsodien 3-38, Thomas North 2-28 and Isaac Allen 2-30 for the hosts.

Due to rain, Mold were set a revised target of 131 off 35 overs and got home on 131-2 from 30.1. Ewan Hill 50 not out and North 34, that pair putting on an opening stand of 64.

Bangor 2nd XI (1) 57-10 Hawarden Park (14) 60-2

Ian Martin took 4-10 off 7.2 overs as Hawarden Park skittled out a Bangor seconds side which chose to bat for just 57.

Tom Norris took 2-9 and Jac Williams 2-21, opener Chris Barry with a defiant 28 for the hosts.

The visitors took 23.3 overs to reach 60-2, Gareth Edwards an excellent 2-12 off eight for the Citizens.

Connah’s Quay (12) 155-8 Pontblyddyn (3) 88-10

Quay set 155-8 off a reduced 32 overs after electing to bat, Joshua Clarke 45 and Morgan Duffy 36, Osian Jones 3-40 and Chris Moss 2-39 for Pont, who were then dismissed for 88, Vishwa Manawaduge 39, Mali Auty 4-15 off nine and Rhys Jones 3-8 for the victorious hosts.

Dolgellau (0) 77-10 Brymbo 2nd XI (15) 200-9

A very welcome 15 points and first win of the season for bottom side Brymbo seconds.

The visitors set 200-9 off a reduced 38 overs, Ioan Craven-Jones 40 and Adam Smith 30, Jack Williams 3-28, Joe Williamson 3-38 and Lafras Van Vuuren 2-36 for Dolgellau, who then fell apart for just 77, Van Vuuren 38, Sion Edwards 4-25 and Gareth Boys 3-7 for a jubilant basement team.

Mochdre 2nd XI (4) 206-9 Gresford (11) 226-9

Wes Evans reached his maiden century and played a huge role in Gresford taking the honours at Black Marsh Fields.

Opener Evans’ career best 103 helped the Colliers post a fine 226-9 off 45 overs after they predicted the coin toss correctly and opted to take first knock.

Finlay Jones took 4-32 and Stewart Williams 2-27 for the home side, who were limited to 206-9 in reply, James Gilman 67 and skipper Adam Jones 33, Ahmadzai Muhammad Wali pocketing 3-27 and Tom Crewe 2-31 for the Wrexham area victors.

Northop 2nd XI (0) 73-10 Llandudno (15) 242-6

Llandudno hit top spot after a maximum points win made possible by a big total of 242-6, set after they won the toss and chose to bat.

Skipper Keegan Armstrong struck 86, Tom Bleasdale 44, plus Jake Sumbland and Oliver Hughes 35 apiece, Andy Poynton 3-51 for the Flintshire hosts.

Armstrong recorded 14 fours and a six in his 78-ball effort.

Northop seconds were then rolled over for just 73, Tom Thornton 4-28, Jack Rimmington 3-26 and Oliver Hughes 2-17.
