Marc Evans is chasing goals to help his club – and raise vital funds for his niece’s operation appeal

Gwalchmai striker Marc Evans has more than one reason to want to score as many goals as possible before the end of the season.

As well as chasing goals to help his club challenge for the North Wales Coast West Premier Division title, Marc is sharpening his shooting boots as he is being sponsored by Grassroots North Wales at £10 per goal for the rest of the 2024-25 campaign for a very special cause.

All money raised will go to help his niece Jess Jones’ appeal to gather £5,000 for a career-saving knee operation.

Gwalchmai have at least 10 games remaining, so there’s a chance of Marc raising a tidy sum.

Both uncle and niece, who hail from Gwalchmai, are prolific goalscorers.

Marc, nicknamed Logs, has netted more than 400 goals in a career which has seen him win tier 2 Cymru Alliance League titles with Llangefni Town, Rhyl and Llandudno. He is also a record-breaking marksman with Melville United in New Zealand.

Jess, 19, has scored a phenomenal 83 goals in just 50 appearances for Llangefni Town since 2022-23.

This season ended early for the teenager due to a serious knee injury. An MRI scan revealed her Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) had been torn, and there was small meniscus damage.

Due to NHS waiting lists, it could be several months/years before she gets the required surgery, so Jess has opted for the private route to accelerate her recovery.

She has set up a Go Fund Me page aimed at raising £5,000 for vital, career-saving treatment.

Grassroots North Wales hopes Marc will score as many goals as possible between now and the end of the season to boost the fund.

The Go Fund Me page has already raised more than £1,000, but any further contributions would be much appreciated.
