Trearddur Bay hit six after a 70-day break from competitive football

NORTH WALES WOMEN’S LEAGUE WEST – JANUARY 19, 2025
Caernarfon Town 3 (L Jones 32, M Hughes 61, E Jones 87)
Trearddur Bay 6 (Woods 19, 68 & 82, Head 20, Davies 26, Mulvey 32)
After 70 days without a game due to postponed matches Trearddur Bay returned to action in style with a 6-3 triumph at Treborth.
Both sides fielded weakened squads due to injury and illness with Caernarfon only able to name the bare 11.
It was Trearddur Bay who started the strongest and were by far the better side, passing the ball really well in midfield and constantly supplying great service to the forwards.
The first goal came in the 19th minute after a good spell of possession when striker Jess Woods found the net with a great shot from 20 yards which gave home keeper Luned Williams no chance.
Before Caernarfon could recover the second goal soon followed from a corner by Woods which saw Clare Head outjump the home defence to score with a bullet header.
Freya Davies added a third with a classy finish after a great delivery from Abbie Manning on 26 minutes and another goal arrived shortly after when Erin Mulvey picked up a loose ball and coolly slotted home from 12 yards.
However, credit to Caernarfon, who refused to drop their heads and hit back straight away with a fine shot from Lisa Jones which flew over Bay keeper Katie Bolton.
This gave the home side some confidence and they grew into the game and dominated the last 10 minutes of the half.
Trearddur Bay had to bring on Shelley McMullen for the start of the second half in place of the injured Head and needed to make another change soon after when Millie Turner replaced Sian Roberts.
Caernarfon were now beginning to dominate the half with the Jones twins and Elain Evans leading the charge and their play was rewarded with a great finish from Malan Hughes in the 61st minute.

However, Bay were able to bring on more fresh legs when Saffron Williams and Stacey Evans came on to steady the ship and eventually regained their grip with two more goals from the excellent Woods after skilful work from Amelia Roberts and Turner.
That made it six goals in four games for Woods, who has netted on each occasion she has represented Bay so far.
Caernarfon refused to give in and Elin Jones got a third goal for the home side in the 87th minute.
A great result for the Bay but credit to Caernarfon for putting in a spirited performance with the bare 11 players. Surely better times lie ahead now for them when they get players back and have some subs to bring on in future matches.
Also a special mention for Georgie Wasnidge, who made her debut for the Bay and had a fantastic game and for Jess Woods, who scored her first hat-trick for the club.
