Ardal North East – fine day for Penycae, Llangollen, Rhos Aelwyd and Dolgellau

ARDAL NORTH EAST LEAGUE REPORTS – AUGUST 29-30

Corwen 0 Carno 3 (Collins 3, 1 pen)

A Norton Collins hat-trick sank Corwen and secured Tier 3 new boys Carno their first three points of the season.

Sunday’s clash saw some recent rainfall had helped soften the playing surface and restore some green to a previously barren looking War Memorial Park pitch.

Early on the referee played advantage to allow Corwen’s Kian Harrison to play the ball forward to MJ Ashworth, who lined up a shot, but could only find the side- netting.

With 17 minutes on the clock Corwen goalkeeper Jack Ellis produced a great double save.

The final attempt at goal of the opening period saw Corwen’s Benjamin Wilson-Davies take on Ifan Griffiths before unleashing a shot which was saved by Rhys Jones.

Nine minutes into the second period Harry Vince-Holt fed across to Collins, who wrapped his foot around the ball and saw it curl through a crowded box and into the back of the net to open the scoring.

In the 67th minute Collins leapt in the air and won an aerial battle to win a ball whipped across the box by Vince-Holt to head home at the far post.

It could have been 3-0 when Gareth Owen met a corner, but he saw his header hit the post.

As the game entered the final 10 minutes the away side were awarded a penalty kick, giving Collins the opportunity to complete his hat-trick.

Goalkeeper Jack Parry, who saved a penalty against Cefn Albion, stood in his way, This time he dived in one direction and the ball via Collins went into opposite corner of the net.

The heavens opened as the game entered the closing stages and saw Corwen bundle the ball home from a comer; however the goal was disallowed for a foul on the Carno goalkeeper.

Late on two Corwen players were sent off – Lewis Wills (straight red) and Kian Harrison (two yellows).

Bow Street 3-1 Knighton Town

Goals from Joshua Taylor, plus subs Osian Burrell and Jamie Whitney clinched the points for Bow against Knighton, who replied through Shane Sutton and had sub Liam Griffiths red-carded on 24 minutes.

Builth Wells 0-3 Penycae

Isaac Dawson, sub Alex Williams and captain Zac Davies delivered the goals which sealed second-place Penycae a fifth win in six starts.
To complete a miserable afternoon for Builth, they had Lee James red-carded on 85 minutes.

Llanfair United 1-4 Dolgellau Athletic

Gerwyn Williams (2), Dion Jones and a Gethin Stephens own goal secured the honours for Dolgellau, Stephens also scoring for his own team.

Llanrhaeadr 3-5 Llangollen Town

Good win on the road for fourth-place Llangollen, Aaron Jones, Scott Evans, Ed Baker, Louie Middlehurst and sub Robert Cooper with a goal apiece, Iwan Matthews, Evan Roberts and substitute Gethin Parry replying for the hosts.

Rhos Aelwyd 3-2 Radnor Valley

Scott Reeves (2) and Harley Davies won the day for Rhos Aelwyd, Ieuan Price and Joey Price responding for Radnor, who are still without a victory and sit one off the bottom.
