NORTH WALES COAST EAST LEAGUE REPORTS – MARCH 9

Premier Division

CPD Cerrigydrudion 3 Penmaenmawr Phoenix 1

Now unbeaten in 10 league matches, second-place Cerrig pulled off a massive result in the Premier title race as they defeated leaders Phoenix.

Penmaenmawr started the game quickest when Daniel Williams set up Jamie Jones to slot home his sixth goal of the season with just six minutes on the clock.

Cerrig reacted well to the setback and levelled after eight when Tirion Griffiths scored a header from a Tomos Jones corner.

Both teams were well up for the game but struggled to get the ball on the floor, the pitch conditions not helping.

It was Cerrig who were wise to this and a long ball played forward saw Delwyn Jones through on keeper Elliot Jarvis, who made a good save to touch the shot onto the post, but the striker followed up and poked into an empty net. Cerrig dominated the remainder of the first half and led 2-1 at the break.

The second half started with Cerrig flying out of the traps and another long delivery released Tomos Watkin-Jones to finish well for his 21st goal of the campaign.

A change in shape for Phoenix saw them finally settle down and begin to play some really good football.

Constant pressure from the away team saw very good chances fall for Lee Stokes, Jamie Jones, Daniel Williams, Ricky Jones and Mike Williams, but it wasn’t to be for the Quarrymen.

Llandudno Junction 3 Kinmel Bay 2

Dean Seager’s double helped the Railwaymen edge past Kinmel Bay in a great contest.

Stephen O’Neill also netted for Junction, while goals from Connor Morris and Tate Walker ran the visitors close.

CPD Llansannan 1 Llanfairfechan Town 3

Jamie Haggas, Osian Roberts and Harry Croston notched a goal apiece in a welcome win for Llanfair, Luke Appleby the home marksman.

Meliden 0 NFA 0

No goals to report from The Mine.

Rhuddlan Town 2 Mochdre Sports 3

Good battle put up by Rhuddlan, but Mochdre edged it thanks to Finlay Jones’ 77th minute clincher.

Sports had to play with 10 men from the 36th minute following a straight red card for Kane Williams.

Nonetheless, Niall Owen put the visitors one-up just before the interval.

Ben Jacobson equalised three minutes into the second half, Finlay Jones put Mochdre 2-1 up on 65, but Ryan Gordon brought Town back on terms after 67.

It was anyone’s game, but Jones’ second of the day sealed it.

Division One

Prestatyn Wanderers 4 Llysfaen 2

Wanderers go for goal. Picture: ROY GUNTHER

Great win for Wanderers, who had not picked up a victory since November, although they had only played five games since then.

Two very late goals clinched it for the hosts at the expense of a Llysfaen outfit who had two sent off.

Wayne Evans gave Wanderers a 36th minute lead, but Dan Batey made it all-square again close to half time.

Nihat Sutlubulak was red-carded for Llysfaen on 25 minutes.

Matthew Roberts restored the Wanderers lead five minutes into the second half, but Reece Kearney made it 2-2 on 56.

Alex Garrett fired Wanderers back in front on 89, at which point Llysfaen manager and substitute Les Batey – who stepped down after the game – was shown a second yellow.

Ten minutes into added time, Martin Halewood made sure of a home win by converting a penalty.

Glan Conwy 8 Betws-y-Coed 0

Youngster Cyril Carey, 17, and 43-year-old veteran Howard Vaughan both scored two goals apiece for Glan Conwy in this rout of Betws-y-Coed.

Cameron West, Dion Lloyd, Cynan Edwards and Tyler Griffiths made up the rest of the home tally.

CPD Henllan 6 Rhyl All Stars 2

Harry Payne (2), Dan Lewis, captain Sam Davies, Ashley Williams and a Michael Williams own goal amounted to Henllan’s six, Cory McHale and Thomas Bamber responding for All Stars, who had sub Lee Pearce sent off.

Penrhyn Bay 2 Bow 11

Double-figures on the road for the second-place title chasers.

Robbie Parry bagged a hat-trick for Bow, new signing Dan Sim adding a double, Loui O’Carroll, Kieran Ellis, Aaron Boyle (pen), Adam Williams, Joe Carey and Greg Hall also on the mark.

Jay Sutton netted both for Penrhyn Bay.
