A tremendous day for Bow as they triumphed on penalties at North Wales Development League West high-flyers Llanrug.

The tie lit up in the closing minutes of the first half.

Owen Roden put Llanrug one-up on 40 minutes, then Cian Owen added a second with 43 gone, but Bow kept their hopes bubbling when Loui O’Carroll halved the deficit in stoppage time, Adam Williams providing the assist.

It was 2-2 after 63 minutes, Cameron Vaughan on target and O’Carroll this time performing assisting duties.

No further goals before the end of the 90 with Llanrug keeper Iddon Jones saving two penalties.

There was another blank scoresheet in extra time, so it was down to penalties.

Barry Roche. Josh Lally, Vaughan, Williams and Joshua Tambs converted their spot-kicks for Bow, whose keeper Richard Hillier-Evans saved one to ensure the Prestatyn side went through against the odds.

Barry Roche

Bow substitute and penalty scorer Barry Roche summed up the game, saying: “We took three regular first team players to help the young lads out on the pitch and started the better team and probably were the better team most of the first half. Dean Davies and Joshua Tambs were outstanding.

“Two goals in the space of five minutes put us two-nil down, but nonetheless Bow never gave up and right on the stroke of half time it was 2-1.

“In the second half a few subs were made and Bow were looking for the equaliser early and managed to get a penalty but their keeper saved it. Just as we thought it wasn’t our day Cam Vaughan again stepped up and scored to make it 2-2.

“Bow were to get another penalty in the 90 only for the keeper to save it again. Both teams had chances but nothing was taken even in extra time so penalties it was and with their keeper saving 2 already we knew it was going to be a tough ask. However, all five of us put our penalties away and Rich saved a penalty to give us the 5-4 win.

“Josh Tambs, who was brilliant all day, scored the winning penalty and our man of the match was Charlie Jones.”
