Liverpool Cricket Competition – Northop Hall joy after first win, mixed fortunes for Colwyn Bay

Colwyn Bay (9) 284-5 dec Rainhill (6) 209-9
Evan Withe made his best score to date for Colwyn Bay of 93 as the North Wales side came within a single wicket of victory over Rainhill at the weekend.
Cheshire representative Withe, 17, joined the Bay from Northop Hall this season and shared in an opening stand of 97 on Saturday with Zack Gidlow (28) after the hosts were put into bat.
The Birkenhead-based youngster was out just seven short of a ton as the hosts amassed 284-5 declared off 55 overs, Usama Mir adding 49 and Will Evans 30.
In reply, Rainhill were clinging on at 209-9 at the end of the 53rd and last over.
Pakistan international leg-spinner Mir scooped 5-67 off 23, while Paul Jenkins nabbed 2-17 from 10.
A winning draw for Bay, but it could have been so much better.
1st XI Second Division
Northop Hall (24) 194-6 dec Irby (5) 143-10
A welcome first league win of the season at the sixth attempt for Northop Hall.
The Flintshire hosts won the toss and batted, setting 194-6 declared off 55 overs, Alex Smith hitting 44, Ben Slater 41 not out, Thomas Doggett 33 and skipper Carwyn Johnson 26.
Ankur Malik then grabbed 5-56 off 28 overs, Johnson 3-47 and Liam Evans Ford 2-30 as Hall knocked over the opposition for 143.
Wavertree (25) 165-8 Prestatyn (7) 161-10
A close-fought game in Liverpool saw early high-flyers Prestatyn beaten by just two wickets.
The visitors chose to bat and were dismissed for 161, Sampath Perera making 41 and Andy Taylor 27, Saeed Ullah bagging 5-41 for Wavertree.
In reply, the hosts dipped from 93-2 to 99-6, but the lower order prospered and the Mersey men reached 165-8 to secure a 25-7 points decision.
Ullah was a key figure with 54 and for Prestatyn, Sri Lankan all-rounder Perera collected 4-82 and Adam Tidswell 3-52.
2nd XI Premier Division
Newton Le Willows (4) 65-10 Colwyn Bay (25) 217-8
A big total from the visitors set them up for an emphatic victory.
Matt Russell made 51, Arthur Jones 49 and skipper Tom Roberts 43 as the Bay chalked up an impressive 217-8 from 42 overs.
Newton Le Willows were then blown away for 65, Shay Williams 4-5, James Jones 2-21 and Arthur Jones 2-24 for the runaway victors.
2nd XI First Division
Rainhill (9) 176-7 Northop Hall (7) 158-8
A losing draw was the outcome for Hall seconds at Rainhill.
The hosts set 176-7 declared from 42.3 overs, Ben Arden 2-47 for the visitors with five others taking a wicket each.
Matteo Evans-Ford topped the batting chart with 37, while Sion Hellen struck 35 as the visitors’ innings closed on 158-8, Harri Sigsworth adding 28.
2nd XI Second Division
Prestatyn (6) 139-10 Caldy (24) 161-7 dec
Steven Edwards took 4-48 as Prestatyn seconds limited the hosts to 161-7 declared.
In reply, the Welsh side were bowled out for 139, Jack Cheetham 46, Steven Edwards 36 not out and skipper Jason Edwards 32.
