Trearddur Bay can look back on a much improved season

Trearddur Bay’s second season in the North Wales Women’s Football League looks likely to end in a seventh-place finish.
Last season saw the newly-formed Anglesey team end up in ninth spot with three wins, three draws and 12 defeats from 18 matches, scoring 31 and conceding 85.
However, they ended the campaign on a positive note with just a single loss in their last five games.
This season, Trearddur’s record was six wins, five draws and 11 defeats from 22 matches, with 40 goals scored and 58 conceded – an improved goal difference from -54 to -18, so in effect three times better than 2021-22!
Captain Ashleigh Jones has been a revelation this season, finishing team top-scorer with 11 goals and putting in a series of performances which earned her recognition far and wide.
Ashleigh’s outstanding form has earned her a place in the Ynys Mon squad for the 2023 Island Games in Guernsey.

The Trearddur Bay management have written their summary of the 2022-23 season:
“After a positive end to last season where we only lost 1 of our final 5 games, we started off with our biggest victory since the club was formed – 8-0 at home to Caernarfon.
“A tough month followed playing the top 3 teams suffering defeats, drawing 2 other games in-between them where we felt the wins were there but not capitalising.
“November brought mixed fortunes, winning one, drawing one and losing 2 but still applying the same commitment and drive in each game.
“December led to a huge gap in action due to teams not being able to fulfill fixtures for various reasons meaning we didn’t play until the second week in January.

“Not playing games and just training for 6 weeks wasn’t the best preparation for match fitness coming into the new year and again we had a mixed bag of results.
“The remaining couple of months had their ups and downs but every member of the squad played their part and never gave up despite some score lines and we finished mid-way in the table which is an improvement on last year.
“More goals scored and less conceded with more games played shows that as a squad we have improved and will go into pre-season with confidence that we can push on again and compete but only through a lot of hard work.
“I would like to thank everyone involved, this would not happen if it wasn’t for the hard work put in by everyone involved with the club. The girls teams are improving and adding more age groups. This is down to a lot of our players being involved with their development and coaching.
“And finally, the team would like to wish our captain Ashleigh all the best representing us at the forthcoming Island Games at Guernsey.”
