Rock guitarist and super striker James returns to The Mine

James Cairns is delighted to be back at Meliden

Cup stars Meliden have re-signed a player who was once in a band that the legendary Liam Gallagher was a confirmed fan of.

James Cairns is back at The Mine after a short spell with Cymru North joint leaders Holywell Town.

Cairns, 29, who joined the Wellmen in the summer, played well for the club, scoring once in eight games, but has decided to return to a tier 4 side for whom things are really taking off.

Meliden’s latest cup triumph came on Saturday when they won 4-3 on penalties at Mynydd Llandegai to reach the last eight of the NWCFA Intermediate. The game itself had ended 4-4.

Also into round three of the FAW Amateur Trophy, North Wales Coast East Premier Division outfit Meliden are unbeaten in their last six matches.

Speaking about his return, “Cairno” said: “I’m really happy to come back to Meliden.

“I had a great few months at Holywell Town and would like to thank the manager Johnny (Haseldin) and the lads for making me feel welcome in the short time I was there.

“After speaking to Tom and Deej (Meliden management) and their ideas for the future, I decided to come back and play week in week out which was a big selling point for me – up the Miners!”

Manager Deej Hobson said: “Really happy and excited that Cairno has decided to come back. We were all excited for his challenge at Holywell and we were all following along and wishing him the best every game. Sadly that didn’t work out but he has decided to come home. Brilliant news for everyone at the club!”

Player/chairman Tom Fletcher added: “Cairno played a pivotal part for us last season and ended up top goal scorer for the club.

“James had every right to go and play higher and we’ve heard nothing but praise for him from a number of people involved at Holywell. We want to thank them for the easy transition in bringing him back to the club.”

A determined, hard-working forward who can play anywhere across the front three or can adapt elsewhere, James has also played at Prestatyn Town, where he won a youth cup among a team of future club greats, and Prestatyn Sports.

However, it is in the world of music where James has found arguably more fame!

James (furthest right) with Liam and the band….as they were

He was a member of Cold Committee, a four-piece from Prestatyn and Rhyl, who made the news almost 10 years ago when they linked up with former Oasis frontman Gallagher.

The outfit, also comprising Sam Hughes, Adam Bass and Jordan Samuel, met up with London-based actor Frankie Rizzo, who liked them so much he offered to manage the band and ensured Liam got to hear them.

Cold Committee so impressed Gallagher that he invited the youngsters to play a series of dates at his Pretty Green shops around the UK.

The group, which included James on guitar and backing vocals, went on to record an acclaimed EP and become a highly praised act on the Wales circuit and beyond.
