FAW WOMEN’S WELSH CUP – OCTOBER 9

Connah’s Quay Nomads 6 (Kirstie Kural 2, Elana Harley 2, Amber Bailey, Emily Bentley)
Llanfair United 2 (Mary Bailey, Sarah Ellis)

Both Nomads and Llandudno have had what could be described as fairly undemanding starts to the season, but that is set to change this weekend when they face each other.

So far this campaign, the Quay have won 6-2, 3-0, 8-1 and 6-0, while Tudno have recorded 7-0, 6-1, 6-0 and 8-0 victories.

This Sunday, October 16, the Nomads will host Llandudno in a Genero Adran Trophy North Group 2 clash.

Last season the teams met four times and shared two wins apiece.

Llandudno triumphed in both league matches, 5-2 and 3-1, and went on to be crowned the first Genero Adran North champions, while Nomads defeated the Seasiders 4-1 in the Adran Trophy and 3-1 in the NEWFA Cup final.

A great battle is on the cards this Sunday.

Both clubs progressed in the Welsh Cup last weekend, Nomads seeing off Llanfair United 6-2 at Deeside Stadium thanks to braces from Elana Harley and Kirstie Kural and singles by Emily Bentley and Amber Bailey.

It was a great weekend for Harley as she produced a special performance on Friday evening just two days prior to this Welsh Cup clash. A wonderful hat-trick as well as two assists helped Stephen Boyes’ U19 side to a 6-0 win over Rhyl U19s in the Genero Adran North U19s League.

Against Llanfair, Nomads were on top from the start and took the lead when Bentley’s pass was headed on by Kylie Jones before Kural raced through on goal and buried her effort beyond Ffion Davies.

Nomads grabbed an important second goal as Bailey made it two goals in two games. Tamara Hamer found Bailey on the edge of the area, and her fine strike flew into the back of the net.

Llanfair pulled one back just before the half time whistle when Mary Bailey’s free kick found the bottom left hand corner.

Half time: 2-1

The two-goal lead was restored on the hour as Kural’s long ball was met by Hamer, who drove low across the face of goal and half time substitute Elana Harley applied the finish.

Two minutes later Kural’s sublime lobbed ball released Bentley, who calmly made it 4-1.

The U19 duo of Polly Wild-McGregor and Harley combined just like they did on the first day of the season against Y Felinheli on 68 minutes. McGregor’s through ball from the halfway line found Harley, who rounded the goalkeeper and slotted home.

Llanfair clinched a consolation goal through Sarah Ellis, but Kural grabbed her brace near the 90 minute mark.

Wild-McGregor’s pass into the area arrived at the feet of the captain who found the time and space to fire in her eighth goal of the season,
