Farewell The Millbank – Rhyl and District Sunday League now has just seven teams remaining

The Rhyl and District Sunday Football League is down to seven teams following the weekend resignation of The Millbank.
It now remains to be seen whether the league can continue as viable, as before the start of the season organisers were desperate to recruit eight teams – the minimum number needed to make it workable, they said.
Millbank released the following statement on social media: “Regrettably, we wish to inform you all of Millbank’s immediate withdrawal of (from) the Rhyl and District Sunday League and the NWCFA Challenge Cup.
“The club will be folding with immediate effect. This wasn’t a decision taken lightly and was ultimately left to the players to decide.
“Going into the season, it was clear we had several players who, thanks to their efforts last year, had been recognised (and rightly so) by several well-established Saturday league clubs.
“This obviously was going to present a potential commitment scenario, which we were never naive enough to expect those players to be 100% available every weekend. After all…it’s Sunday league!
“Sadly, we just aren’t in a position where we have enough players to cover for match day. Combine this with the financial commitment and time sacrifice by all players and coaches, ultimately, gives us no other option but to take the decision we have.”
Millbank first entered the Rhyl and District Sunday League last season and made a fine start, beating quadruple kings FC Mally in their second game.
They went on to build a formidable home record and were viewed as title contenders until their form dropped off in the closing weeks of the season and they had to settle for fifth place.
This season, Millbank played just one game and led 2-0 before going down 5-2 to Rhyl Rangers.
Millbank pulled out of last weekend’s scheduled meeting with champions Mally, citing a lack of players.
The following day the Rhyl team resigned from the league.
Just seven teams now remain in the league…
