Key players being unavailable finally caught up with Chirk last weekend as they crashed heavily at home to Shrewsbury 2nd XI in Division One of the Shropshire County Cricket League.
Despite the huge loss at Holyhead Road, Luke Gardner’s side are still top of the table, but they face similar selection woes this Saturday when they visit a resurgent Bridgnorth 2nd XI, who lie five points behind the North Walians in second place.
Shrewsbury elected to bat last Saturday and amassed 318 all out off 41.3 overs, opener Dan Humes hitting 109, Dylan Edwards 58 and Tom Winchester 51.
Jonathan Phillips picked up 3-81, Ollie Gough 2-0 and Wynn Jones 2-23 for the hosts.
Chirk were bowled out in reply for just 163, in-form opener Wynn Jones the only major contributor with 54, Jean-Pierre Erasmus 4-24 and Edward Prideaux 2-26 for the away side, who took the points 20-6.
DIVISION SIX
Montgomery 2nd XI (20) 59-0 Chirk 2nd XI (0) 58-10
After opting to bat bottom side Chirk seconds were sent packing for just 58 in 18.3 overs, extras the top scorer with 28.
Montgomery sailed to 59 without loss in 9.3 to complete a 20-0 whitewash.
