North Wales League Division One – De Silva hits first ton for Gwersyllt, skipper stars for Llanrwst

Bangor 2nd XI (1) 146-8 Halkyn 1st XI (14) 147-2

With leaders Denbigh 1st XI not in action, second-place Halkyn comfortably won their game in hand on the table-toppers to trim the gap to a still considerable 21 points.

Bangor 2nd XI won the toss and batted, but could only manage a modest 146-8 off 42.3 overs, skipper Sohaib Khan top-scoring with 40 and Jamie Davies adding 26.

For the visitors, Andrew Watkin scooped 2-15 off nine, Alex North 2-27 and Graeme Settle 2-31.

In reply, Halkyn reached 147-2 in 31.5 overs, Gareth Fox 52 not out, skipper Ben Roberts 38.

Fox and Shamar Forde (24 no) put together an unbroken partnership of 61 for the third wicket.

Conwy 1st XI (13) 219-8 Buckley 1st XI (2) 161-9

Opener Evan Williams hit 80 as heavy run-scorers Conwy amassed a match-winning 219-8 at Bodlondeb.

Philip Michael Davies ended 35 not out and Jonathon James Davies added 32 for the hosts, William Norman an excellent 3-20 from nine and skipper Louis Parry 3-47 for Bucks.

Guto Davies then notched 4-27 as Buckley’s reply was limited to 161-9, meaning the home side took the points 13-2.

Rajjenu Britto pocketed 2-21 and Stan Senior 2-26 for Conwy, Sam Evans leading the away card with 25 runs.

Dolgellau 1st XI (0) 106-9 Gwersyllt Park 1st XI (15) 243-4

Iroshan De Silva

League leading run-scorer Iroshan De Silva cracked 133 not out as Gwersyllt Park celebrated a maximum points triumph at The Marian.

Skipper De Silva, who joined the Park this summer from Cheshire League club Barrow, hit his first century for Gwersyllt, adding to six fifties, and is now on 727 North Wales League Division One runs in 2022.

Alfie Lythgoe was next highest for the visitors with 35 not out, sharing in an unbeaten stand of 97 for the fifth wicket with Sri Lankan ace De Silva.

Gwersyllt set 243-4 off 45 overs, Morgan Yorke 2-49 for Dolgellau.

The home side ended on 106-9, Stuart Evans 30, with De Silva completing an amazing personal performance in taking 3-6, Neil Pearson 3-26 and Ben Griffiths 2-13.

Hawarden Park 1st XI (13) 170-5 Connah’s Quay 1st XI (2) 166-6

Campbell Marr’s crucial 68 not out helped guide Hawarden Park to a five-wicket win at Moor Lane.

Connah’s Quay chose to bat and set 166-6, Darren Jones 66 and Kevin Jones 31, Ian Martin taking 2-25 for the home side.

Park made it to 170-5 in response, Marr sharing in a vital unbroken century stand for the sixth wicket with Martin (24 no).

Llanrwst 1st XI (15) 248-9 Marchwiel and Wrexham 1st XI (0) 119-10

Skipper Aron Hughes produced a true captain’s innings of 82 not out as Llanrwst laid the foundations for a maximum points success at Gwydir Park.

Put into bat, the Rwsters lost two relatively early wickets before Hughes took centre stage, receiving good support from Stefan Horan (27), Iwan Edwards (26) and Alwyn Williams (20).

The home total finished on 248-9 off 45 overs, Sam Shoemark 3-50 and Anthony Morris 2-20 for the visitors.

Marchwiel and Wrexham then collapsed to 119 all out, Lee Thomas a superb 3-13 off nine, Jack Parry 3-42. Llanrwst won by 129 runs (15-0).
