Chirk hit summit of Shropshire County League Division One

Skipper Luke Gardner claimed four wickets for Chirk in their win at Alberbury which put the North Wales side top of Shropshire Cricket League Division One

Chirk are top of Shropshire County Cricket League Division One after romping to a six-wicket win at Alberbury.

After losing their first two matches of the season, the North Wales side are now unbeaten in eight outings with Saturday’s latest success lifting them to the summit.

Alberbury won the toss and chose to bat, away skipper Luke Gardner taking 4-38 and Andrew Swarbrick 4-46 as the hosts were bowled out for 163.

Mark Jones (75) and Oliver Pope (33) ensured the Pecknall Farm-based home side set a respectable score.

In reply, Chirk took just 22.3 overs to reach 169-4, Jonathan Phillips (43 not out) and Mark Shaw (27 no) putting on an unbroken 61 for the fifth wicket.

Nick Flack added 27, Gareth Partridge 24 and fellow opener Wynn Jones 22.


Chirk 2nd XI (4) 160-10 Corvedale (21) 163-3

Visitors Corvedale were in a hurry as they took just 17.2 overs to make the 161 needed for victory at Holyhead Road.

Put into bat, Chirk seconds made a decent 160 all out in 36 overs.

Gary Bailey produced a good knock of 51, including eight fours and a six, while extras amounted to 42.

David Golightly claimed 4-51 for the away side.

Corvedale got to 163-3 in 104 balls, Ali Usman dominating with 97 not out from 47 deliveries, smashing 17 fours and four sixes.
