Welsh Cup cricket – Llandudno and Northop are through to zonal finals

Llandudno made it two wins in as many days over Bangor in Sunday’s Welsh Cup North Zone 2 semi-final clash at The Oval.

Narrow victors on the same ground by 84 runs to 71 in the North Wales League Premier Division on Saturday, Tudno were again pushed hard by the Citizens a day later.

Bangor won the toss and batted, posting 185-6 off 40 overs, Owen Reilly hitting a standout 78, Tomos Davies 32 not out and skipper Matthew Haswell 31.

For Tudno, Tom Thornton took an excellent 3-16 from eight overs.

Llandudno openers Sam Rimmington (45) and Oliver Hughes (18) put on 50 in reply, then Thornton (30) and Stephen Cheung (24) added useful runs, enabling the hosts to get home on 185-8 in 37.1 overs.

Spinner Saami Welsh grabbed 3-30 and Ryan Symonds-Mayes 2-12 for the visitors, who lost out by two wickets.

St Asaph host Colwyn Bay in the other semi-final next Sunday (June 19).


Northop 92-2 (18.1) Newtown 91-10 (32.4)
Northop won by 8 wickets

Bart Ryan-Beswick returned magical figures of 4-8 as Northop made light work of Mid-Wales visitors Newtown in Sunday’s North Zone 1 semi-final at Flint Road.

Opting to bat, the Powys side were all out for 91 in 32.4 overs, Ryan-Beswick’s figures compiled from five overs, Thomas Hughes bagging 2-14.

Northop eased to 92-2 off 18.1. Charlie Collins (35 no) and Leo Grieg (24 no) putting on an unbroken 60 for the third wicket.

The other semi-final between Northop Hall and Brymbo is at Smithy Lane next Sunday (June 19).
