Cricket: Colwyn Bay seconds home in on promotion

SATURDAY REPORTS – LIVERPOOL AND DISTRICT CRICKET COMPETITION

2ND XI FIRST DIVISION

COLWYN BAY 2ND XI (25) 194-9 NORTHOP HALL 2ND XI (7) 140-10

Bay remain firmly on course for promotion and the 2nd XI First Division title after seeing off North Wales rivals Northop Hall on Saturday.

Batting first at Penrhyn Avenue, the hosts set 194-9 off 45 overs, openers Chris Barry and Dan Russell making 43 and 35 respectively, Oliver Pitman (27) and skipper Tom Roberts (26) boosting the total.

For Hall, Nish Adke picked up 4-39 and Renit Adke 3-69.

In reply, the visitors were bowled out for 140, Archie Sussex a defiant 65, James Jones notching a marvellous 6-44 for the hosts, who took the points 25-7.

1ST XI FIRST DIVISION

RAINFORD (23) 241-7 COLWYN BAY (8) 238-6 DEC

Despite setting a good total, the Bay ended up beaten at Rainford.

The visitors opted to bat at the Jubilee Ground and amassed 238-6 declared off 52.4 overs, Adam Campion top-scoring with 76, Sion Morris adding 66 and Vishal Kushwah 63.

Rainford reached the winning post in 41 overs, finishing 241-7 to clinch a 23-8 points split.

Kushwah nabbed 3-54 and Paul Jenkins 3-109 for the toiling away attack.

NORTHOP HALL (5) 164-10 BIRKENHEAD PARK (25) 236-4 DEC

No joy for the Hall as visitors Birkenhead Park piled up a mammoth total at Smithy Lane.

Harrison Jones took a very respectable 2-37 off 10 overs as the away team posted a formidable 236-4 declared off 50 overs.

The hosts were then dismissed for 164, Jamie Hodgson 56 not out and Jones 31.
