FAW Amateur Trophy match of the day 1: Stunning win for Tigers in Mid-Wales

FAW TROPHY ROUND THREE

MACHYNLLETH 1 (Petrie pen 2)
MENAI BRIDGE TIGERS 3 (Wannop 13, R Jones 45+3, Thomas 46)

A fantastic result for tier 4 Menai Bridge as they recovered from conceding an early goal to knock Ardal North East side Machynlleth out of the Trophy.

The Anglesey visitors suffered a nightmare start as goalkeeper Ben Wolfenden committed a foul and Jac Petrie converted from the penalty spot in just the second minute.

Tigers hit back in the 13th minute when a ball in the box from Robbie Jones caused a goalmouth scramble and Andy Wannop poked home.

Menai were now bossing proceedings and had Mach on the back foot.

The North Wales Coast West Premier Division outfit had the lead just before half time when a free kick from Harry Jones was nodded in by Robbie Jones.

Tigers extended their lead right at the start of the second half.

Craig Roberts played in Callum Thomas, who dinked over the onrushing goalkeeper.

Star man Robbie Jones

It was a battling performance throughout the second half from the long-distance travellers, with some superb clearances from MOM Robbie Jones to defend the lead.

Even more impressive was the fact the Bridge were without their two leading scorers, Dean Redmond and Callum Davidson.
