This weekend brings an historic occasion for women’s football on Anglesey.
On Sunday, recently reformed Llangefni Town Ladies FC will play their first home match in 15 years when they welcome Llandudno to Cae Bob Parry.
Cefni have played two away friendlies so far, putting in promising performances against Bangor 1876 and Llanystumdwy.
Manager Bryn Griffith is assembling a decent-looking squad which includes Jess Lane, former defender with Mountain Rangers and Bethel.
Many teams are keeping their cards close to their chest when it comes to revealing their players for the 2021-22 season, but the Llandudno squad on the club’s official website contains numerous well-known names.
Listed are: Sara Williams, Jordanne Greenough, Claire Colville, Catherine Jones, Ella Hughes, Stacey Tradewell, Maddie Williams, Sonia Jones, Sioned Phillips, Sofie Owen, Maisy Johnson, Indie Hassall, Jenn Davies, Mari Gibbard, Ella Jones, Jessica Stirley, Bethan Smith and Kelsey Hughes.
Llandudno will operate in Tier 2 North in 2021-22. They resigned from the Welsh Premier Women’s League in 2019-20 after several seasons of competing in the top flight took its toll, with travelling and player commitment the main problem.
Sunday’s game between Llangefni and Llandudno kicks off at 2 pm.
With up to 100 spectators now allowed to attend games, make sure to get a seat for this historic clash and support ladies football on the island.
