Absolute cracker on the cards when Nomads host Saints next weekend

Champions Nomads moved to within three points of Cymru Premier leaders The New Saints – who they meet in a crunch top of the table clash at Deeside Stadium next Saturday.

A magical Danny Davies opener at Park Avenue on Friday night was cancelled out by a Steven Hewitt penalty, but a Michael Wilde pair in the second half sealed the spoils for the Quay.

Andy Morrison made three changes to his side, Callum Roberts returning from suspension to replace George Horan, who started on the bench. Sameron Dool and Craig Curran also found their way back into the starting XI in place of Danny Harrison and Jay Owen.

Wilde threatened early with a header from a corner, only to be denied by Connor Roberts’ tip over the bar.

In the 22nd minute, Davies, a summer signing from Prestatyn Town, broke the deadlock for Nomads.

Receiving the ball on the left wing, he showed great skill to flick the ball in the air and break away from his man to slot low into the bottom right corner from the edge of the Aberystwyth box.

A goal with shades of Matt le Tissier in his prime!

Sameron Dool was denied by keeper Roberts before the break, while Wilde’s efforts were blocked by a packed Aberystwyth area.

At the interval, manager Morrison made his first substitution as Brayden Shaw was brought on in place of Callum Roberts.

The restart saw Aberystwyth level the score after just nine minutes, when Callum Morris was booked for a foul in the area on Steff Davies, leading the referee to point to the spot and Hewitt converted.

Soon after, Aber were reduced to 10 as Owain Jones was sent off – he brought down Declan Poole on the edge of the hosts area and seemingly said something to referee Dean John which resulted in a straight red.

Club captain George Horan replaced Priestley Farquharson and it was the sub who helped conjure Nomads’ second.

Horan met an 81st minute corner with a header which was saved, but the ensuing scramble left Wilde unable to miss, making it 2-1 from close range and scoring his 70th goal in all competitions for Nomads.

Wilde soon added number three with a deadly near post finish from an Aron Williams cross.

It is now five straight wins for Nomads, who are looking more than capable of retaining their title. We will find out more next Saturday.
