In just their second-ever match, Trearddur Bay recorded an impressive 4-2 win over Queen Bees Eglwysbach at RAF Valley tonight.

With both teams having enough players, it was agreed to play 11-a-side, full pitch, 3 x 20 mins.

In the first 20, Trearddur played against the strong wind and only through some solid defending kept it at 0-0 with centre backs Catrin Jones and Gemma Thomas putting in some great tackles.

The second stanza saw Bay have the wind advantage and with Shanellie Cooper’s long distance shooting ability it was not long before she opened the scoring with a great effort from well outside the box.

Cooper went close twice again as did a couple of other players. Bay won a corner that was put into the box and with some good pressure from the hosts, the ball found its way into the net off one of the Bees players.

Eglwysbach still threatened on the break and almost scored themselves a couple of times.

The third period saw the visitors pile on the pressure with the wind behind them and after Trearddur failed to clear their lines the ball fell to Chev Cannon who made no mistake.

Bay were now defending to hold onto their slender lead, but when they broke with some great link up play it was left to Ashleigh Jones to put the ball into the net to make it 3-1.

Bees kept swarming and the home team defended for their lives until a shot came from distance and after Georgia Magee saved the first effort the follow up was finished well by Cannon for 3-2.

The Anglesey side were now holding on, until another break saw Leanne Williams and the lively and promising Freya Davies link up again. With the final kick of the game, Leanne Williams made it 4-2.

Trearddur manager Chris Davies said: “Having only played two games, the girls have come on leaps and bounds this year and credit to them all.

“Every one of them played their hearts out and put a shift in this evening in difficult conditions. Playing 40 minutes against the wind with only 20 with it makes the win even more impressive.

“Huge thanks to the Bees, a great bunch and we really enjoyed the game. We look forward to the return match.”
