North Wales Road Runners Club member Jon Evans celebrated two unique milestones during the festive period.

He ran his 100th race of the year in the Boxing Day 5k at Northwich, and then completed his 100th half-marathon at Walton-on-Thames on Sunday.

Jon completed the popular 5k event in 24 mins 36 secs, and then enjoyed a steady run in the Phoenix Half Marathon at Elmbridge, finishing comfortably in 1 hr 52 mins 30 secs.

He ran a total of four races over Christmas, including parkruns at Delamere and Irchester Country Park, near Wellingborough.

End of year PB for Helen in 10-mile race

Helen Hannam left her best performance till last when she competed in the scenic ‘End of the Year’ 10-mile race around the leafy lanes of Staplehurst, near Tonbridge, last Sunday.

She ran well throughout and recorded a great new PB of 1 hr 24 mins 37 secs, but admitted the last three miles were mainly downhill.

There was a great turnout of some 14 NWRRC athletes – including two promising juniors – at the Conwy 5k Parkrun last Saturday.

Amidst 264 festive runners, for the final event of 2019, three members recorded age category wins, and two celebrated PBs.

Husband and wife team Martin and Carla Green used the parkrun as part of their current endurance training, with both finishing together in 21.41 in 23rd and 24th places respectively. Carla was also the 2nd female athlete.

Junior runner Alfie Walker was 1st JM10 cat in a new PB of 21.58 in 27th place overall, and Daniel Owens running with his guide Tony Price-Jones enjoyed a positive run in 28th place and 2nd SM25 cat in 22-mins dead.

Veteran Don Hale was 54th and 2nd MV65 in 23.49, with Tony Gibson 78th in 25.23, and fellow M65 veteran Mike Hayton was 95th in 26.17.

Mother and daughter Rachel and Mia Morris

John Walker finished in 125th place in 28.32, and Rachel Morris just dipped under the 30-minute mark for the first time ever to celebrate a great new parkrun PB of 29.52 as 43rd female, and 152nd overall.

Meanwhile, Rachel’s young daughter Mia continued her own recent purple patch in 82nd place overall, 13th female, and was 3rd JW11-14 runner in 25.39.

Jon Evans went on his travels again last Saturday, this time competing at the Wellingborough Parkrun where he finished 42nd and was 3rd MV50 cat in 23,54.

And on Christmas Day, Jon joined over 700 park runners for the special event at Delamere, completing the course in 24.49 in 165th place.

Stuart Culverhouse finished in 17th place at Tring and was 2nd MV45 cat in 22.11.

Helen Hannam took part in the Sittingbourne parkrun last Saturday, finishing as the 4th female athlete. She also won her VW40 cat, and was in 32nd place overall in 25.41.

Mia and Jack Morris

Two family members of NWRRC athletes took part in the Conwy junior parkrun last Sunday with Mia Morris bizarrely now finishing all four of her events so far in 4th place.
