Women’s football previews – Sunday, December 8

Corwen player coach Alaw Davies-Smith (No2 – green) hopes to face her old team Rhyl on Sunday

North Wales Women’s football previews – Sunday, December 8

NEWFA Women’s Cup round one (1 pm)
Rhyl v Corwen (at Ffordd Derwen playing fields)

These two teams have been scheduled to meet at least twice already this season, but due to the weather they’ve not managed it.

Will it be third (or fourth, or fifth) time lucky on Sunday in the NEWFA Cup?

The tie has been switched to Rhyl having been postponed at Corwen last week, so that makes the prospects of play a little more encouraging.

This pair shared some good battles in Division Two last season. Based on how they have started their respective campaigns, Rhyl must be considered favourites.

A chance of instant revenge for Nomads, who suffered their first defeat last weekend at the hands of Bethel in the NEWFA Cup.

Both teams play good attacking football, so it should be a cracking contest again.

Betty Pickering Cup
Round one (4 ties)

Amlwch Town v Caernarfon Town

Having scored a stunning 66 goals in just eight matches across all competitions, Amlwch are a team to be feared.

Caernarfon are rebuilding and struggling near the bottom of Division Two, which Amlwch currently lead.

A couple of promising new signings in the air for the Cofis this week it is rumoured, so it remains to be seen how that works out.

Denbigh Town v Llanberis

Town have not had the best of luck with the weather this season, so it’s far from a cert this one will go ahead.

Although Denbigh are in Division One and Llanberis Division Two, the Darans have signed some good players of late and enjoyed a fine win at Pwllheli last week.

Llanfair United v NFA

Division One leaders Llanfair are expected to prevail at home, but NFA are getting better all the time in Division Two and could put up a defiant show at Mount Road.

Mountain Rangers v Wrexham

What sort of a side will Rangers put out given recent injury problems? Anything near their best side and they have a great chance of beating Wrexham, who are in the division above but not in the greatest of form.

Hard to predict, the visitors have some talented players who will surely shine at some point, while Rangers are a team full of goals.

Northop Hall P Holywell P

Northop go through automatically as Holywell have withdrawn from the cup.
