Market Mayhem: Blacks beats Slim, Marvin and Aiden triumph, wins for Humphreys brothers

Alan Blacks came out on top in the Clash of the Cofi Titans when he won a clear five-round points decision over Alan Mark Roberts to be crowned Market Mayhem heavyweight kickboxing champion last night.

Blacks, 27, stretched his unbeaten record to five and 0 despite being outweighed by three-and-a-half stone against the 35-year-old Roberts, affectionately known as Slim.

The fight had captured the imagination of MMA and boxing fans from the Caernarfon area and beyond with the Market Hall packed-out for a top class show.

Blacks generally dominated throughout with his speed and skills, fighting to a game plan devised by coaches Marvin Pritchard and Darryl Gallagher.

Slim, who was also unbeaten in four contests going into the bout, and is a former WUMA Welsh heavyweight kickboxing champion, gave it his all and was always dangerous, but Blacks prevailed in a display of true quality.

Blacks added the Market Mayhem title to the WUMA Welsh heavyweight kickboxing belt he already possesses.

This was the penultimate fight of Blacks’ career. He will enter the ring for the final time against Porthmadog’s Robert Ben Humphreys next month.

It was a great night for Blacks’ MPMA camp with both head coach Marvin Pritchard and Aiden Jones making it three wins out of three on the card.

UFN British Kickboxing 80kg champion Pritchard was a late addition to the bill, but wasted no time in beating Ralph Sutton of Derby inside a round.

Youngster Aiden made it two wins in three outings with a close-fought win against fellow North Walian Tom Taylor.

Aiden showed bags of courage, heart and skill to take a three-round decision.

Humphreys brothers in winning form again

It was also a good evening for the Humphreys brothers from Porthmadog, with twins Cafan and Ben both in winning form.

Ben beat Jack Godfrey by second round KO, while Cafan recorded a stoppage win, also in round two, over Serb 800. Both the brothers’ opponents were from Derby.

Cafan said: “I was on holiday the day before, but when I got a message yesterday morning offering me a fight I couldn’t turn down a challenge.

“We used yesterday as a warm up ready for my title fight in Shell Island on October 12, where me, Ben and Wayne are fighting and my little brother is making a boxing debut.”

Cafan is the Universal Boxing Alliance British Heavyweight champion and will be defending his title against former UBA Welsh Super Heavyweight champion Barry Fielding of Holyhead.
