Market Mayhem title fight: Slim holds massive weight advantage ahead of showdown

Ready for battle: Roberts (left) and Blacks

Alan Mark Roberts has weighed in three-and-a-half stone heavier than opponent Alan Blacks ahead of tomorrow’s big heavyweight title fight in Caernarfon.

Roberts stepped off the scales at 128 kg (20 stone and 1 lb) while Blacks was a much lighter 102 kg (16 stone 6).

The pair meet on Saturday night for the Market Mayhem Heavyweight kickboxing title at Caernarfon’s Market Hall.

Roberts, 35, is trained by Caernarfon-based highly-accomplished martial arts instructor Chris Pritchard, while British champion kickboxer Marvin Pritchard is coach for Blacks.

Both fighters have spotless 4-0 records and Blacks currently holds the WUMA Welsh kickboxing heavyweight title, which was formerly the property of Roberts, known popularly as Slim.

Slim landed in North Wales today all business and ready for action having been working abroad in Norway for some months.

Blacks, meanwhile, has kept fit and busy training hard and playing football for Llanrug United, and was in winning form in the ring just a fortnight ago, stopping Dan Pritchard in the third round on a Welsh Combat League boxing show in Llandudno.

Tomorrow night’s Clash of the Cofis has all the makings of a classic battle.

Blacks’ trainer Marvin Pritchard will also feature on the bill.
