North Wales Cricket League Premier Division title: St Asaph on verge of title after Brymbo lose to Menai Bridge

NORTH WALES CRICKET LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION – REPORTS SEPTEMBER 5

St Asaph need just four points from their final game of the season at home to Denbigh next Saturday to be crowned 2026 North Wales Cricket League Premier Division champions.

Saints’ six-wicket win at bottom side Hawarden Park today put them on the verge of the title after second-place Brymbo crashed heavily at home to Menai Bridge.

Asaph are on 290 points from 17 games, while Brymbo have 276 from the same amount of matches.

If Saints pick up just four points from their last match, Brymbo could finish level with them if they win their curtain-closer at Hawarden Park. 

However, Saints’ points-per-game-played is superior to the Steelmen, so four will be sufficient to seal the Elwy Park Grove club the crown.

Nonetheless, St Asaph will no doubt be going for the win against their local rivals in seven days time to clinch top spot in style.

Hawarden Park (2) 77-10 St Asaph (18) 78-4

Dan Evans and Joe Norman both claimed five-wicket hauls to ensure St Asaph had a low target to seal victory at Moor Lane.

Winning the toss and deciding to bat, the bottom team were dismissed for just 77 in 29.1 overs, Jacob Duker a spirited 41, while Norman scooped 5-23 and Evans 5-26.

Saints got home on 78-4 off 15, Matty Ryan 31 and Evan Williams 26, James Martin 2-21 for the hosts in a match which lasted less than 45 overs in total.

Brymbo (5) 139-10 Menai Bridge (18) 241-9

Brymbo’s usually awesome batting for once let them down as Menai Bridge celebrated a big victory at the SSC.

Bridge won the toss and batted, chalking up 241-9, Gethin Roberts 52, Dion Holden 48, Ayush Verma 46 and Jack Gower 35 for the islanders, Richard Deniz 2-23, Mohamed Nilam Jayman 2-32 and Daniel Parry 2-24 for the hosts.

Brymbo were then bowled out for just 139, only opener Chris Taylor making any impact with 45, Patrick Glover taking 3-45, Holden 2-4 and Verma 2-37 for the visitors.

Denbigh (18) 141-10 Bangor (5) 116-10

In a low-scoring encounter, all-r0und hero Shaun Nash made a crucial 49 for the hosts in their effort of 141 all out.

For Bangor, Mehul Ahir took 2-11, Smit Parekh 2-12, Francois Mostert 2-19 and Daniel Flynn 2-41.

The visitors were blasted out for just 116, Saif Ijaz 34, while Nash completed a marvellous display with 6-34.

Mochdre (18) 174-10 Gwersyllt Park (5) 113-10

Joe Chaplin hit a crucial 60 off just 51 balls in Mochdre’s 61-run victory over Gwersyllt.

Electing to bat, the hosts were all out for 174, Chaplin striking seven fours and two sixes in his pivotal knock, Neil Pearson bagging 5-37, Daniel Jones 3-56 and Iroshan De Silva 2-42 for the Wrexham side.

Park were sent packing for just 113, Chaplin proving his all-round worth with 4-20, Owen Davies 3-28 and Gareth Goodson 2-40.

Mold (7) 234-8 Northop (18) 235-4

Mold are still not safe from relegation after they failed to defend a good total of 234 against Northop in Saturday’s Flintshire derby.

Opener Thomas North posted 92, David Graham 38 and Isaac Allen 37 as the hosts made their score for the loss of eight wickets having been put into bat.

Elliot Berg scooped 3-24 and Ben Beaver 2-30 for Northop, who then produced an outstanding batting display to reach 235-4 off 49.3.

Wales international Sion Morris made 102 not out – his first ton for the club – Richard Walker 57 and Elliot Colclough 39 to secure a six-wicket, 18-7 points verdict.
