Oliver Gough scored a crucial 66 and Andrew Swarbrick claimed six wickets as Chirk won a thriller by five runs at Forton.

Invited to bat, the North Wales side posted 163-8 off 45 overs, opener Gough striking nine fours in his half-century, Chris Hughes picking up 4-36 for the hosts.

Forton pushed hard for the win and at 153-7 looked set to get it, but they lost their last three wickets for five runs and the visitors celebrated a fine result.

Swarbrick grabbed a season’s best 6-28 off 13.4, including those all-important three late wickets, Muhammad Wali Ahmadzai notching 2-23 and Nitish Sharma 2-36.

Leaders Chirk seconds continued their excellent form with a commanding 70-run win over Corvedale.

Bala Vajrala starred with a brilliant 87, well supported by Harry Lunt’s 42, before Dale Randall ripped through the batting with 6-31 and Alfie Shaw claimed 2-43 to seal another dominant victory.

Two wins, 48 points and another huge weekend for the club as both sides continue to build momentum.
