Liverpool Cricket Competition: Wins for Colwyn Bay and Prestatyn, but Northop Hall have to settle for draw

LIVERPOOL AND DISTRICT COMPETITION – REPORTS SATURDAY, JUNE 20

1ST XI FIRST DIVISION

Colwyn Bay 1st XI (20) 227-7 Maghull 1st XI (8) 225-10

George Johansen’s captain’s innings of 91 inspired Colwyn Bay to a home victory which lifts them up to second in the First Division.
Bay are now undefeated in their last seven league outings – five of them wins.
Johansen won the toss and put Maghull into bat. The Liverpool side were struggling at 124-6 before the tail wagged and they ended 225 all out, number seven Anthony Molloy shining with 64 not out.
Matt Russell took 4-89, Shashika Dulshan 3-46 and Charlie Collins 2-26 for the home side.
In reply, Bay overcame an early loss with Johansen and opener Zack Gidlow (45) forming a stand of 102 for the second wicket.
The skipper’s 91 came off 95 balls and included 14 fours. The hosts reached 227-7 in 46.2 overs to seal a 20-8 points split.

Northop Hall 1st XI (9) 241-3 dec Hightown St Mary’s 1st XI(5) 200-9 – DRAWN

Despite a trademark five-wicket haul from the unstoppable Paul Jenkins, Hall were unable to finish off their opponents at Smithy Lane.
Hall slipped to fourth in the First Division after having to settle for a winning draw.
Winning the toss and electing to bat, the Flintshire men amassed 241-3 declared off 48 overs, the main feature being a partnership of 157 for the second wicket between Jac Kennedy and Matthew Jones.
Kennedy posted 81 – 13 fours – and Jones struck 11 boundaries in his 70.
Christian Jardine (45 not out) and Finley Jenkins (23 no) then added an unbroken half century for the fourth wicket.
After two early losses in response, Hightown batted well. From 20-2, they profited from a 137 combination involving Matt Laybourne (74) and Jackson Darkes-Sutcliffe (70).
With Jenkins turning up the heat, wickets began to tumble, but the last pair clung on as the visitors finished on 200-9 off 62 overs.
Jenkins collected 5-57 off 23 overs, Carwyn Johnson bagging 2-55. Points: 8-5 to Hall.

1ST XI SECOND DIVISION

Prestatyn 1st XI (20) 195-3 dec St Helens Town 1st XI (3) 130-10

Right-arm paceman Kieran New took a magnificent 7-62 and Ryan Westwell recorded an unbeaten ton as Prestatyn romped to a comfortable victory over St Helens at Beach Close.
New’s best return for the club remains the 8-58 he took at Burscough back in 2014, but his seven-for on Saturday was a real tonic for the Seasiders.
Prestatyn were put into bat and chalked up a hard-earned 195 for three declared off 58 overs.
Opener Westwell batted patiently for his 102 not out, which included 13 fours, and figured in three good partnerships – 57 with Andy Taylor for the first wicket, 49 alongside Faiz Shah for the second and 66 together with Daniel Williams, who made 34, for the third.
Saints were then knocked over for 130, New’s analysis reading 16.5 overs, two maidens, seven wickets for 62 runs, while Benjamin Hughes scooped 2-37.

2ND XI PREMIER DIVISION

Northern 2nd XI (25) 227-2 dec Colwyn Bay 2nd XI (3) 113-10

A heavy defeat for Bay seconds at Northern.
The hosts made the most of winning the toss and opting to bat, amassing 227-2 declared off 34 overs, openers Jack Snaylam (78) and Charlie McPhee (62 no) putting on 108.
Jaiveer Tomas was Bay’s sole wicket-taker with 2-60.
The visitors then collapsed to 113 all out, Sion Hellen best with 29, while Kian Lunt snapped up 6-29 for the resounding winners.

2ND XI SECOND DIVISION

Cheshire Lines 2nd XI (6) 201-9 Northop Hall 2nd XI (9) 231-3 dec – DRAWN

Openers Michael Williamson (89 not out) and Owen Skillander (85) produced a pivotal stand of 154 as Northop Hall seconds piled up 231-3 declared off 40 overs, Thomas Doggett adding 34.
However, stubborn Cheshire Lines seconds clung on for the draw at 201-9, Jamie Edwards 4-60, Oliver Jenkins 3-50 and Matteo Evans-Ford 2-16 for the away team, who got the better of the points 9-6.

St Helens Town 2nd XI (20) 118-5 Prestatyn 2nd XI (4) 115-10

Invited to bat, Prestatyn seconds were dismissed for 115, Steven Edwards 31, then St Helens Town seconds responded with a winning 118-5, Ashley Jones 2-22.
