North Wales Cricket League Divs 1-4: First defeat for Tudno, Conwy and Bethesda triumph
NORTH WALES CRICKET LEAGUE REPORTS – DIVISIONS 1-4 – JUNE 6-7
DIVISION ONE
Conwy 1st XI (18) 209-9 Northop 2nd XI (7) 194-7
Harrison Hudson finished two runs short of a third century of the season for Conwy, but his fine innings was decisive in securing a home win at Bodlondeb.
The hosts called the coin correctly and batted, posting 209-9 off 45 overs, despite nosediving to 26-4 early on, Tom Sudder in devastating early form for Northop seconds.
Hudson remained, striking 13 fours and a six in his 98, also getting good support from skipper Jonathan Davies (43) and Raj Britto (24) before the overseas star was eighth to go.
Joe Griffiths picked up 3-22, Sudder 3-27 and Evan Collett 3-43 for the Flintshire side.
Northop seconds gave it a good go in response, but were limited to 194-7.
James Roberts (56) and David Foulkes (50) put on 98 for the second wicket before one was caught and the other run out by Hudson.
Skipper Thomas Hughes (25) and Nathan Pierce (23) contributed well in the middle order, but the away side could not quite reach their target.
Shaun Davies took 2-34 and Callum Davies 2-42 for the home side, who won by 15 runs and 18-7 on the points.
Bethesda 1st XI (18) 72-1 Bangor 2nd XI (0) 71-10
Bethesda claimed just a second win of the season at the expense of bottom side Bangor seconds.
Opting to bat, the Citizens were blasted out for just 71 off 26 overs, Pesda’s Ben Parker taking 4-24, Marlyn Gamage 3-8 and Harry Devine 2-10 from nine.
The hosts needed just 8.5 overs to reach 72-1, Matthew Harrington striking seven fours in his 41 not out.
Connah’s Quay 1st XI (18) 130-5 Llandudno 1st XI (3) 128-10
Mali Auty’s five-wicket haul did most to ensure Connah’s Quay became the first team to defeat Division One leaders Llandudno this season.
Winning the toss and deciding on first knock, Tudno could only manage 128 all out off 31.5, Jamie Grimshaw (43) and Lucas Hughes (35) the only batters to shine.
The visitors were 4-3 and 38-7 before a stand of 60 between Grimshaw and Hughes brought some respectability to the scoreboard.
Auty claimed 5-27 off 7.5 and Joshua Clarke 3-39 – two great spells of new-ball bowling.
Quay dipped to 41-3 in reply, but got home on 108-5, Rhys Stout best with 40, Tom Thornton an excellent 2-15 off seven, Grimshaw 2-59.
Gresford 1st XI (18) 163-10 Buckley 1st XI (6) 141-10
Gresford triumphed by 22 runs in a good contest at Clappers Lane featuring some outstanding bowling.
Inserted by Buckley, the hosts were dismissed for 163 in 44.3 overs, Harry Parker top-scoring with 43, while for the visitors, Jack Whitley nabbed 3-23, Lee Taylor 3-33 and Louis Parry 2-20.
Despite a match-best score of 50 from Chris Geary, the Flintshire hopefuls were bowled out for 141.
Tom Crewe snaffled 3-41, Mohammadi Gul 2-16 and Gareth Bell 2-35 for the triumphant Colliers.
Halkyn 1st XI (18) 105-6 Abergele 1st XI (3) 103-10
Nathan Roett topped the chart with bat and ball in Halkyn’s four-wicket success over Abergele in a low-scorer at Pant Newydd.
Gele were put in and bowled out for 103 off 30.4, Roett 5-33 and Ryan Ferguson 3-4 for the home side, who reached 103-6 off 23.3 to earn the victory, Roett (42) and Nabeel Khan (39) putting on 62 for the third wicket. David Moulson 3-42 and Lewis Tolond 2-22 for the visitors.
Mochdre 2nd XI (7) 148-10 Pontblyddyn 1st XI (18) 193-7
Skipper James Griffiths (42 not out) and Cayo Jones (40) inspired Pontblyddyn to a winning total of 193-7, Stewart Williams bagging 3-32 for Mochdre seconds, who were bowled out for 148, Jack Austin 48 and Tom Opie 40, Rhys Jones 4-14, Osian Rhys Jones 3-36 and Vishwa Manawaduge 2-26 for the winning side.
DIVISION TWO
Sunday, June 7
Corwen 1st XI (13) 165-10 Llay Welfare 1st XI (2) 99-10
Harry Pooler’s half-ton went a long way towards banking Corwen an excellent home result against Llay Welfare on Sunday.
Asked to bat, the home side posted a total of 165 all out, opener Pooler’s 58 coming off 57 balls and including eight fours and two sixes.
Pooler put on 67 for the second wicket with Jordan Williams (32), while for Llay, Jack Edwards took 3-20, Dylan Honey 3-30 and Nathan Humphreys 2-36.
Will Roberts then pocketed 3-16 as the visitors were blown away for 99.
Saturday, June 6
Brymbo 2nd XI (12) 156-7 Denbigh 2nd XI (3) 106-10
Captain Gareth Pugh took 4-8 and joint top-scored with the willow in a great all-round display for his victorious Brymbo seconds side.
The Steelmen chose to bat and made 156-7 off 40 overs, Pugh and opener Tomos Rhys both 37, Oliver Sheldrake 28 not out, Joe Threlfall 3-32 and David Kitching 2-23 for Denbigh, who slumped from 78-3 to 106 all out, Andy Thomas 36, Pugh with 4-8 off five and Rhys 2-15.
Carmel & District 1st XI (12) 164-10 Marchwiel and Wrexham 1st XI (3) 62-10
Newcomer Buddhika Prasad’s best score so far of 58 boosted Carmel’s victory quest at Pen-y-Gelli.
Deciding to bat, the hosts set 164 all out, opener Prasad, whose 53-ball effort included seven fours and two sixes, plus 36 from Maneesha Ayomal Nissanka the chief contributions.
Muhammad Ghufran notched 4-30 and Charlie Gooding 3-9 for Marchwiel and Wrexham, who then collapsed to 62 all out.
Ralf Fernando collected 4-10 and Amer Jamil 2-16 for the buoyant hosts.
Menai Bridge 2nd XI (11) 181-10 Llanrwst 1st XI (4) 171-10
A close-fought tussle at Pen-y-Gelli saw a late collapse from Llanrwst cost them victory.
Matt Bixby hit 65 and Hari James Williams 40, that pair adding 79 for the second wicket, as the home side were all out for 181, Trefor Williams 5-46 and Alwyn Williams 3-23 for the Rwsters.
In reply, the Conwy Valley team were well set on 166-6, but ended up 171 all out.
Aron Hughes was the Llanrwst standout with 80, Aled Hughes 36, while for Bridge, Sean Morris poached 3-16 and David Owen 2-38.
Pwllheli 1st XI (15) 108-0 Dolgellau 1st XI (0) 107-10
While Dolgellau’s streak of low scores since the start of the season continues, their totals are showing improvement.
However, their effort of 107 on Saturday was still not enough to prevent them finishing pointless from a 10-wicket defeat at Parc Bodegroes.
Kalmi Al Baloshi gathered 4-18, Syed K Aslam 3-16 and Ioan Roberts 2-23, as Pwllheli removed their visitors cheaply, then Adam Williams (54 not out) and Logan Morgan (41 no) put on an unbroken 108 in 23.2 overs,
St Asaph 2nd XI (11) 167-9 Gwersyllt Park 2nd XI (4) 152-9
An unbroken last-wicket stand of 60 runs between Cameron Davies (28 not out) and Chetan Upadhyaya (22 no) made all the difference in Saints’ narrow success at Elwy Park Grove.
The seconds’ story was similar to that of the first team, who also benefited from a crucial 10th wicket partnership in winning at Northop.
Asaph set 167-9 off 40 overs, Tim Cloete’s 28 equalling the top-score of number nine bat Davies, while for Gwersyllt, Ben Griffiths took 3-17 and Lee Beer 3-37.
Due to a weather intervention, Park were set a revised target of 162 off 38 overs. Their response ended on 152-9, meaning Saints won by nine runs.
Liam Lynes made 35 not out, Gareth Fox 34 and Sean Dodd 33, while Cloete snapped up 4-18 and Elliot Goddard 3-20 for the hosts.
DIVISION THREE
Abergele 2nd XI (3) 63-10 Clwb Criced Caernarfon (12) 65-6
Shafas Shamsudheen (4-10), Matthew Duckworth (2-16) and Dipin Varghese (2-25) shone for Caernarfon in bowling Abergele seconds out for 63 before the Cofis replied with a winning 65-6, David Holmes 2-4 and Berwyn Thomas 2-27 for the home side.
Bersham 1st XI (14) 104-2 Conwy 2nd XI (1) 103-10
Jijin Joseph (4-11), Shins Varghese (2-8) and Sujeesh Vazhadan (2-27) helped Bersham dismiss Conwy seconds for 103, captain Philip Davies 34, and the hosts eased to 104-2, Santhu Kj 38 not out and Sathyajith Ihalagama 32, sealing an eight-wicket win for the leaders.
Buckley 2nd XI (4) 141-10 Mold 2nd XI (11) 142-9
Final-wicket duo Dan Jones (25 not out) and Keith Embleton (8 no) guided Mold seconds to a thrilling victory at Lane End.
Inserted by the visitors, Buckley seconds were 141 all out, skipper Harri Weigh 34 and Sam Evans 31, Craig Roberts 2-15, Ralph Cornwell 2-17 and Wes Gillam 2-24 for Yr Wyddgrug.
Mold edged home on 142-9 in the final over, Dan Jones with the highest score, Johnny Hewitt with 3-14, Paul Threlfall 2-21, Jatin Sharma 2-24 and Mathew Edge 2-30 for the hosts.
Hawarden Park 2nd XI (15) 100-0 Connah’s Quay 2nd XI (0) 98-10
Comfortable for Hawarden seconds as they sent Connah’s Quay toppling for 98, Craig Wilson 3-14, Gethin Birchall 2-6 off eight, Owen Littler 2-21 and Quinn Martin 2-25 before Park openers Christopher Brooks (58 not out) and Birchall (28 no) cruised to 100-0 in 23.1.
Pontblyddyn 2nd XI (13) 137-5 Halkyn 2nd XI (2) 135-8
Put into bat, Halkyn seconds made 135-8 off 40, Dylan Wilson 33, Daz Wilcock 3-12 and Morgan Roberts 2-12 for Pont, who got home on 137-5, Abs Dey 58 and skipper Dave Evans 32 not out, Sion Ferguson 2-19 and Oliver Jones 2-34 for the visitors.
Ruthin 1st XI (13) 96-5 Bethesda 2nd XI (2) 94-10
Richie Parry hit a dominant 65 – seven fours and a six – but received little support as Bethesda seconds were all back in the hutch for 94, Jonas Roberts 4-12, Llyr Williams 3-17 and Andrew Holliday 2-31 for Ruthin, who made the winning post on 96-5, Holliday 35 no, Sopan Patil 4-25 for Pesda.
DIVISION FOUR
Sunday, June 7
Brymbo 3rd XI (13) 129-4 Northop 3rd XI (2) 128-10
Terry Jones picked up a weekend’s best 6-21 as Brymbo thirds celebrated a six-wicket home win over Northop thirds on Sunday.
The visitors chose to bat and were all back in the pavilion for 128, skipper Wayne Totty 37 not out and Tomas Bevan 36, Habibullah Ahmadzai next best bowling for the Steelmen of 2-19.
Captain Charlie Croasdale then guided the hosts home on 129-4 with a commanding 68.
Saturday, June 6
Llanrwst 2nd XI (1) 123-3 Pwllheli 2nd XI (14) 124-2
Batters on top in a low total contest at Parc Gwydir, but Pwllheli seconds ran out convincing winners by eight wickets.
Llanrwst seconds set 123-3 off 40, Ian Nicholls 31 and Tim Coleman 29 not out, Dyfed Williams 2-17 off eight for the visitors, who replied with 124-2 from 24.2, Dyfed Williams 54 not out and Ioan Morgan 46 no in an undefeated, third-wicket match-clinching stand.
Marchwiel and Wrexham 2nd XI (1) 67-10 Gresford 2nd XI (14) 68-3
Sam Burke claimed 3-8 and Emlyn Morris 3-16 as Gresford seconds skittled out Marchwiel and Wrexham seconds for a paltry 67, Huw Bellis with 2-1, then the visitors made 68-3 off 17.4, Zahid Sharif 2-20 for the losing hosts.
